View Full Version : Stuffed animals?
tobin67 Aug 23rd, 05, 04:16 PM I will preface this by stating that I don’t mean for this to ridicule anyone.
Why do people put stuffed toy animals in their show cars? I see it so often at shows; big stuffed monkeys or dogs sitting in the back or passenger seats. I get the funny signs like "Fords in rear view mirror are slower than they appear" or signs with the cars specs or photos, but I don’t get the animals.
Just curious.
novaderrik Aug 23rd, 05, 04:19 PM because the wife likes them, and she's the one that allows thousands of $$$ to be spent on the car, so the Teddy bear gets to sit in the car..
lortsie Aug 23rd, 05, 04:20 PM This made me laugh out loud... only cuz I know exactly what you mean. Baffles me too...
Buck Aug 23rd, 05, 04:24 PM Cheap way to cover a hole in the seat... :clonk:This made me laugh out loud... only cuz I know exactly what you mean. Baffles me too...
RamAirDave Aug 23rd, 05, 06:59 PM A lot of times theyre used to cover a flaw/blemish. Trophys and plaques (which get on my nerves at shows too) can be used for the same purpose.
But THE #1 thing I cant stand: The little crying kid leaned on the car. errrr

Yes sir! I saw one guiy who put the kid under the front tire. Ha!
DjD Aug 23rd, 05, 07:14 PM Look around you house or office for the answer. Is it decorated? Do you have a collection of di-casts or autographed sports pictures or old tools? Does the wife have a cabinet full of dolls or china? Is the kids bed covered in with stuffed animals? It's just what people do... :beers:
Gary Dorion Aug 23rd, 05, 08:24 PM I've seen a car where the owner has a toy dog with it's leg up next to the tire and has water on the ground to make it look like the dog peed on the tire.
Brackneyc Aug 23rd, 05, 08:38 PM Maybe you guys are actually attending stuffed animal shows, and the guys displaying the animals all happen to drive really cool cars. :)
Indy Z11 Aug 23rd, 05, 08:51 PM I think the Mopar guys are the worst. Those darned stuffed coyotes and roadrunners. Feels like I'm in Hannah-Barbara land. I do love Mopars though!
MrDanB Aug 23rd, 05, 09:43 PM I have nothing against Betty Boop....but, seems like you can always tell a woman car owner at a show by the crazy amount of Betty Boop paraphenalia on the car, in the car, next to the car, etc. :D

68rs406 Aug 23rd, 05, 11:15 PM the kid leaning on the car crying or whatever takes the cake, i want to come up and punt the thing across the parking lot. sadly, i even have friends that have them  . like dennis said, its just something people do.
now heres another pet peeve, whats up with these guys that just sit by thier cars at car shows, showing them off, when they could be out using them? man i hate that! ;)
DjD Aug 23rd, 05, 11:43 PM Go easy on the guys sitting around at car shows Sean, some of the ones around this site have been known to drive 900 miles and more one way just to sit in a parking lot!! :D ;)

or a Camaro pal that lives one town over and can't seem to help on his friends 69, or at least check out the paint job, new engine, etc. ;) (J/K)

ssdanny69 Aug 24th, 05, 07:30 AM I have to admit, the "crying kid" gets to me. I initially thought it was a kid playing hide-and-seek and kept looking for another stuffed kid to be "hiding" somewhere else around the car http://www.camaros.net/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif
What's even worse are those bull testicles guys have hanging below their car. KZ could use a set though.
rojo Aug 24th, 05, 08:41 AM What about the model car painted to match the real one sitting on top of the chrome air cleaner. We get a lot of those around here.
ssdanny69 Aug 24th, 05, 08:51 AM I think that's cool. At least it's another car.
camaroman7d Aug 24th, 05, 09:07 AM The GTO guys are by far the worse (with the stuffed Tigers). The last Goodguys show I went to I think every GTO there had a stuffed Tiger in/on it.
Doesn't really bother me, it's their car. I just don't think it adds anything. At larger shows sometimes displays are as much of the show as the cars (lowrider shows are really big on displays).
tmannet Aug 24th, 05, 10:03 AM Slightly OT, but has anyone seen the "Karma Chameleon" car at Porky's drive-in in St Paul, MN? Not quite stuffed animals, more like a terrarium on wheels... I won't try to describe it, but I'll try to post a pic if I can get one off a video I made. I could post a short video, I'm not sure if Comcast gives me enough storage to upload a video clip...does anyone know a free place on the web where you can upload and post video clips?

camaroman7d Aug 24th, 05, 01:41 PM LMAO (John and Dan).
tobin67 Aug 24th, 05, 03:31 PM I have never seen the crying kid thing so that puts a whole new spin on this interesting topic.
I don’t believe the female influence explanation. If that were true, all the windows in the car would have curtains!
The model car thing I get.
I love car shows myself. I get to talk with other guys and see their cars (what they did, how they did, etc). I just am perplexed by some of the props incorporated with some peoples car.
SY1 Aug 24th, 05, 09:09 PM I don't understand any of it. It doesn't add anything to the car and it's hard to take the car seriously.
The spouse thing is true I believe. That explains why so many of these cars are for sale with laughably high price tags in the windows. Many of the cars aren't worth 1/2 of what is on the sign but at least the guy can take the heat off for a little while "hey I'm trying to sell it, so cut me some slack".
RamAirDave Aug 24th, 05, 09:26 PM The GTO guys are by far the worse (with the stuffed Tigers).
As a GTO owner myself, I definately know what you mean. Ive even seen "human sized" ones sitting in the seat.
I can safely say that the only Tiger stuff I have for mine is a tiger tail keychain, and the mandatory GR-RRR! front plate.
How bout a display of a Tiger attacking the Crying Kid?
dave
camaroman7d Aug 24th, 05, 11:18 PM Dave, I think you are on to something the Tiger attacking the kid, that would be new and different.
I did see a few "life sized" tigers in a few of the GTO's. I don't remember ever seeing them in the past. I didn't even know what they were there for, I had to do a little research to see what the deal was. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the tiger used in the advertising for the GTO back in the late 60's?

those guys really know how to use thier rides!
as for those other guys, well, i just dont know..... (j/k :p )
and dan, i cant imagine any kind of a horses arse that would be that inconsiderate,...... oh wait, your talking about me :o
i know, this has been another hectic summer (havn't even taken my own car down the 1/4 yet), and its darn near over. we do need to meet up again, before the summers over :beers:
RamAirDave Aug 24th, 05, 11:46 PM Right Royce
The Tiger was used in the early GTO ads. GeeTO Tiger. Had tigers jumping out from under the hoods in the TV ads. Dont really know where it came from, since they quickly became known as "goats". But GM/PMD didnt care for that monniker at all. I think the Tiger advertising ended around 66-7, but I still have the plate on my 69. The only one I would put on it.
So why dont we see stuffed goats on em?
dave
MRCOOL_RSSS350 Aug 25th, 05, 10:45 AM A month ago while out for a brunch with a buddy, he was driving a 27 ford open bucket and had a real stuffed fox in a sitting position on the passengers seat chained to the gear shifter. After we had our lunch we came out to find dozens of people standing around the car saying "Hi there, little buddy. Are you lonely sitting there all by yourself?" I nearly ****ed my pants and even though we told them the animal was stuffed, they couldn't believe it.
