My son wants to attend and go for collision repair and refinishing with high performance fabrication. The cost for 58 weeks is $25,000. Link to the college site (http://www.nadcedu.com/index.php?source=google_Nashville_Auto_Diesel_Coll ege)

Anyone know about them or been there? Opinions about these type of schools? All comment will help us out. He is 19 years old and really likes doing body work (I hate it) and would like career doing it. It looks like loads to learn in just 58 weeks but I think he's up to it.

Thanks for the comments in advance :D :beers:

Check with your local state Tech Volleges.
I teach at one and it's about $5000 for 40 weeks.
We do collison repair but not chassis fab.

Local employers have let a few Wyo Tech guys go because they were good fabs but didn't have the basic body repair skills.

Not sure about Nashville, but look at their curriculum closely.
They advertise "free tools" but the cost of their tuition makes them not so free. A couple local rich kids are just going there this year so I'll see how they turn out.

In the automotive field schools like Wyo-tech and others have earned a bad name, not only do they steal money from students ($25K is outrageous) they dont give them a good education either. When I went to college we learned how to rebuild an alternator, at those tech schools you just learn how to tell if one is bad and replace it. They dont learn the theory and operation which is what is important to know.

Also most tech schools are not accredited so if your son wanted to go on later and get a degree he would have to start over from scratch. I spent $3500 for my autorepair education and Im an ASE certified master tech, I would say I got my money's worth.

Joe,
My office is about 10 miles from the school. I've been by it 100 times but don't know much about it. If you would like, e-mail me and I will investigate for you.

You can get an associates of applied science from them while in the class room. Total 58 weeks and 29,000.00 What do any of you suggest for him to get into the field? We have no votechs near us. 100 miles is as close as it gets.

Toby, please PM me with some info.

Thanks
Joe

Joe,
I would take the time to go to five or six of the larger body shops in your area and see what they think. They are the ones that will be giving your son a job when he is finished with the school. I am betting they will say it is not worth the money. Ask for thier suggestions. Personally, I think the best mechanics and body men are the ones that have started from the bottom and learned everything the hard way by working thier way through the ranks.
Just my opinion,
