I have held a license to carry for the last 17 years, Do not always carry it on my person just due to it still has some restictions and its bulkyness sometimes.
I carried a S/W 1006 10mm for about 3 years and then switched to a Sig Sauer P226 9mm(Pre-Ban- 15 round mag plus 1 in the hole)
I am wanting to recertify with a smaller framed gun and was wondering what are going to be some good options that people like.
The large frame autos are nice for their Large caliber, good take down power. and/or smaller caliber but larger clip capacity. but just getting to be to big to carry on a daily basis.
I currently use the Galco Miami shoulder harness setup and would liketo switch to a behind the back belt/clip style holster.
gonna go do alittle shopping this wekend and just wondering what you carry or have shot and liked.

I carry a Glock 19 9mm in a fobus paddle holster. It's a little bulky but I wouldn't trade my Glock for the world. It works EVERY time. If you are looking for something smaller to conceal, I know a few people who carry Kel-Tek 9mm. Small, but not too small. I don't use one because I don't like the trigger pull, but if you put a couple hundred rounds through it at the range I'm sure you would get used to it.

Are you looking for something the size of say a Walther PPK? I love mine and it has never let me down at the range.

Are you set on a 9mm or is a .45 worth considering? I have a .45 Kimber Ultra that I am very fond of and fits nice in my CCW holser.

I have the same set up. Man, I love that Kimber. Probably my best fitting pistol that I have, also my most expensive.

My choice is the Glock 27 with a Bianchi shoulder rig or an ankle holster. It is very comfortable and like ept000 said, it works EVERYTIME.

But...............what to do in the summer??? I have carried the G27 with a paddle holster under a baggy T-shirt but it will print when you bend over or reach up for something. If you bend over to polish your chrome wheels at the show I have wondered if anybody can see it. No one has ever said anything, even my buddies that I travel to shows with don't know I carry. When we went on vacation a couple of times this summer I have just carried my little Beretta 21A in a wallet holster in the back pocket of my shorts. In fact, I am sitting on it right now.

I ordered a Desanti inside the pants to fit the G27 but do not like it. No matter what I wear it still gouges into me and after awhile it hurts! I find that it is easier to carry in the winter than in summer.

I carry my Ruger SP-101 the most, 357 mag and six shots but it is extremely small, hammerless, and easy to carry with plenty of stopping power.

I carry a Glock 27 .40 cal off duty when I am not at work. I'm not a fan of a 9mm handgun, not enough stopping power. A .40 is a short 10mm. The 10mm is very powerfull, I do not see to many of those around, they have quite a bit of recoil. I do like .45 and .357 as well.

I would not recommend a holster in the small of your back. Its very unconfortable! Also if you fall backwards this could cause an injury to your back. An just think if somone tried to take your gun from your back, how would you stop them?

I carry my gun either with a holster and a large sweat shirt in the winter and in the summer I carry a leg holster or a fanny pack. My favorite is the leg holster because you would never guess I have a gun there.

Good tips Luke, Thanks. Never really thought of someone taking it from my back.

What kind of leg holster are you using?

I currently carry a S&W 360PD and I like it alot. Its a 5 shot .357 weighting in at 21 onces loaded. I've carryed in the middle of my back, front pants pocket, front waist and in a inside pocket of a jacket. I like a revovler because its small very compact, very light weight, no cocking, and no safety just point and shoot in double action.

Just out of curiosity, why do you guys feel the need to carry a gun? I personally have never been in a situation where I have needed one and think that the burden of carrying one would out weigh the benefit of having one. Maybe you are in law enforcement? Why else would you want one?

because they can, dammit.
the same reason you and i feel the need to hold onto and drive old gas guzzling, pollution spewing dinosaurs of cars.

I am of the opinion that those who obtain CCW permits are those who carry a gun for the right reason. Those who carry without a permit are either to "busy" to obtain one, think they know it all already, don't want big brother to know they have it, or are not permited to legally carry a weapon (of any kind). Just to start, I am not a fan of ANY person carrying a weapon. With that said, I will protect your RIGHT to carry (as long as it is within the law). After 29 years in law enforcement (as of the today as a matter of fact), I don't carry off duty. I insert them manually. Not really. I have had a paddle holster, shoulder rig, ankle holster, I have had them all. When working, I have a nylon pancake holster. No matter what, in about a year, the inside of my suit jackets is torn to shreds from the gun. I carry a Glock Model 19, 9mm. Have since 1992. I may even clean it on occcasion. Damn good gun. I need the 15 round capacity. I can pin em down till the good shots get there. After work (off duty), it goes in the gun locker at home, locked up. I don't remove it from the holster and I don't unload it. A vast majority of "unintentional discharges" occure while the gun is being loaded or unloaded. While most "gun enthusiests" can rattle off model numbers and calibers, I wonder where my gun is. To me, it is a tool as a wrench is to a plumber. As for caliber size, not including shotgun blasts, splitting mauls, and knives, almost every homicide I investigated, commited with a firearm, the firearm was a small caliber. .22, .32, .38. Very rarely was one with a .40, .45. or .357. It is not the size that matters (where have we heard that before). It is the shot placement. A well placed .25 will drop a sucker faster than a badly placed .45.

It is funny this topic was posted as yesterday I spent (along with my other investigators) 6 hours on the range in training and practice. I went through 300 rounds, 12 targets, and several bottles of water. I improved on reloading under fire, shot placement, shot grouping, clearing a "jam" under fire, and, overall, scoreing. When I got home, it all went into the gun locker.

One last thing, for those who think guns kill people, they do, in the hands of the untrained, unskilled, uncaring, and unknowing. With that said, I can place my fully loaded 9mm on a table and if never touched, in 200 years, it will not have fired, not have hurt anyone, and will be mighty dusty.

Codi, there are another HUGE group out here in the "supposed" land of the Free and Home of the Brave, who don't, and never will, obtain a CCW. The reason? They do not believe they ever need the governments "permission" or "blessing" to exercise a right. Period, plain and simple. You, as a law enforcement officer, have a DUTY, not a right, to carry while you are "on the clock". We, as soverign and free individuals, have a RIGHT to carry anytime and anywhere we so choose. It's so sad that anti-bill of rights, anti-founding fathers, and in general pro-Big Government, have infested, polluted, and corrupted this once great society to brainwash the vast majority of We The People into thinking they must first obtain the governments (the very enemies of individual liberty and freedom, as expressed in no uncertain terms by our Founding Fathers) permission to exercise ANY right. How sad. And we see the results everywhere we look now in this country. So ask yourself, "Am I part of the problem, or the solution"? Have a wonderful day.

After reading and posting I have wondered how long this would take to get other views. My wife never liked guns (grew up in the city and cops would protect you) I on the other hand grew up in the country (a good response time is 45 minutes) and guns were part of growing up. Now to my point we never talked about them and my children all learned at a early age what they were capable of. They dont play with them. Yes they are all locked away in a safe. One time we were on a trip and it was late at night and we were heading home. This car came up on us out in the middle of nowhere and flew by us. They than slowed way down and tried to stop us. I went into defense mode and tried to go around them they sped up and started swearving so we could not pass them. Then they stopped in the middle of the road, I stopped and backed the car up to keep space between us. They then started comming at us, at which point I got out and fired one shot in the air and leveled the sights on the driver. When they heard the shot they stopped dead in their tracks. I informned them any closer and one of you is not going home. They threw a whiskey bottle out and speed off. What would of happened if I was unarmend? I would feel real bad if I could not protect my family and could have. These same guys were busted a few days later at a meth house and were all armned. My buddy whos a sheriff was telling me about the bust and the 3rd gen Camaro confiscated and then I realized it was the same group. Now my wife has had me teach her to shoot and always carrys when shes going somewhere farther than around our area. She carries a Glock 23, with a Kramer setup also. I beleave there is nothing wrong with a leagally armend citizen. And NEVER show or brandish your weapon as long as you carry unless it is apsolutly needed and all other avenues have beed tried. I feel firearms are a tool and when used correcttly there is nothing wrong with them the mdeia and others have protrayed them as evil which is sad, lets quit slapping the hands of those who use them wrongly and make them pay instead of slapping their hands lets just cut if off???

In reply to the original question, the Kel-Tec P11 is a nice compact weapon. It weighs just 14 ounces and is only 5.5" long. Mine is a 9mm and they probably also make other bores. I also have a Sig P226 which I prefer to shoot, but if I had to carry one around I'd carry the Kel-Tec. I can't hit a barn door from 10' with either one of them anyway.

Its also hard to beat a Glock 23 they are great for their simplicity and they always work. We have 4 Glocks all .40's 22, 23's, 27 I like the .40 over the 9mm. I have a Hi Power and its my actual favorite to bad its 9mm. But I carry a CDP Kimber.

Say good night to this one!! The nature of the post had nothing to do with civil rights, didn't touch on politics or go anyway near the subject. It never takes long for someone to jump into a subject like this and turn it into their personal band wagon. When it does the thread gets closed...
