WildBillyT Aug 25th, 05, 08:36 AM I think the shape and the fit look great. The only thing I would change is the color/luster. It's a bit too shiny for the rest of your dash.
jblake Aug 25th, 05, 06:23 PM Nice job! any chance you would be willing to share pictures/dimensions of the pattern you made?
BonzoHansen Aug 25th, 05, 07:06 PM As you asked...can you cover it w/o the screws showing? The things looks like it is sized very nicely.
Joe Harrison Aug 25th, 05, 07:38 PM If that's not your best work I really want to see what you come up with when you take your time. It looks great but the material looks out of place to me. Just to vynal looking is the only way I can say it and the screws look out of place also. Awsome start, I wish I had 1/10th of that talent.
Joe
Rocketrod Aug 25th, 05, 07:49 PM Very nice. As stated earlier the material is a little glossy, but it is still very nice.
maxharvard Aug 26th, 05, 06:55 AM Thanks guys, the screws actually match the screws holding the lower part of the inner door panel on, and i wanted to have some sort of continuity to it. The vinyl i used was "marine vinyl" as it is water proof and is coated with teflon or something, i guess thats why its shiny. The back seat and door panels are still vinyl so i guess it kinda works... i dunno...
Anyways, the piece can be made without screws i just wanted them to look like it was part of the door, make sense?
here's some pics making it.

mikes68 Aug 26th, 05, 10:07 AM Looks great! What was used for the padding and how was it secured to the floor. Thinking of doing something similar.
Codi Aug 26th, 05, 10:09 AM I think you did one heck of a good job. IMHO, it looks a litle "poofy". Perhaps the padding under the vynal? It also looks a bit sparse after taking up that much room. Some gauges? A Camaro emblem stratigicaly placed? Just some thoughts.

I was just kind of thinking the same thing. Are you planning on anything behind the shifter (drinkholder, stereo, etc.)? Break it up a bit. I understand about the screws & consistency. The whole picture, which may not be captured in these pictures. A constant theme often ties things nicely.
Karen Aug 26th, 05, 10:56 PM Hello Codi....
I hope you take this the right way.....
The pix that you have with the side panel on the table.....well if you would use a heat gun and heat the vinyl it will make every cuve and corner tuck under and lay very nicely....
Using a heat gun takes some practice and always moving the heat back and forth following with your hand on the vinyl to feel that your not getting it too hot.....when it is strechy you will no then it is time to start pulling over your vinyl....always practice on a scrap piece first to see how hot you can get it with out messing up the grain and patina....all vinyls are so very different so always always try scrap before heading for your project.....can get ugly quick....lol
Can I ask what you are using for padding? And is the vinyl glued to padding and to the panel?

Buck Aug 27th, 05, 06:44 AM where's my drink holder??? :beers: :p
theshmo891 Aug 30th, 05, 09:50 PM Looks puffy, but thats about it. Does anybody else have any pictures of custom ones? because I think I might make one, because mine is lacking a floor shifter, and I want me one :)
bluntz420 Aug 30th, 05, 10:00 PM if it was your first time doin it id say you did better than i think i could...doesnt look like "stitchcraft" but probably didnt cost u 1200 for the same affect...so nice job can u make me one
mark67ss Aug 31st, 05, 06:16 AM I think you did a nice job for your first time. Heck even if it was your 10th time!! If I can add one thing you can make the best shaped piece in the world but if the material is not right that is on it, it can give the illusion of a bad looking piece(not that this is bad I think it looks great) I would go with a flatter piece of material not as glossy. EVER CONSIDER LEATHER? I SELL IT DIRECT FROM MY TANNERY AT PRICES THAT ARE VERY INEXPENSIVE and the quality is superior to any upholstery shops material. If you or anyone else is interested let me know I can be reached at markor1@comcast.net

DRJDVM Sep 4th, 05, 10:46 AM I think the shape and layout is pretty good.
My only criticism is that with the screws holding down the vinyl, it creates all those "dents" at each spot and makes the rest of the sections look "puffy" like the other guys were saying.
If you want it to match the door more, you need to put some sort of pattern in the vinyl too. Thats alot of plain, flat, shiny vinyl.
I think you did a great job, but it just needs "something" else to spruce it up and break up the large sections of plain vinyl. Maybe some guages, switches, storage tray or something like that.
What I did with my car when I did the trunk is that I did all the wood work to build all the panels and speaker box etc and then had a local upholstery shop doing the vinyl. It was pretty cheap and they did alot better job of putting in some "details" etc to match the rest of the interior. You might want to get some estimates.
I think its an excellent start.. good work.
Joe Harrison Sep 4th, 05, 01:05 PM Just thought of this. Maybe not so "puffy" and use some old door panel crome trim along the side to break it up a little?
Just a thought, it might look like crap................but then again???

when you did do the trunk, how did you get the panels to stay up in place so they wouldnt fall down? i'm thinking of doing this and would like some ideas.
