View Full Version : Ebay & Bid Pay
MStennes Aug 25th, 05, 09:03 AM Just thought I let people know that when your using Ebay DO Not Use Bid Pay. I have been ripped on 2 items in the last 4 months and both used Bid Pay. The seller uses Bid Pay and than doesnt send the merchandise. So I file a complaint with Ebay in the short term I call my card company and tell them what happens they cancel the transaction and give me a credit. Well than I get this very nasty email from Bid Pay saying pay up in 15 days or you will be turned over to collection. I call them up and ask what the heck?? I explain what happens that I didnt recieve my merchandise and its like who cares we wnat our money back. We argure for a little bit and the Nice Lady says didnt your read all of our contract? Its in there, you need to read the whole thing. Wow I guess I loose I have to resend them the monies and go through Ebays buyer protection and wait and get most of what I lost if I'm lucky. So in conclusion my advice to all is if your looking at bidding dont use Bid Pay as the sellers know they can cheat you on how their system is setup, and you cant really do anything about it.
Darin Imbriaco Aug 25th, 05, 10:42 AM Same thing for PayPal. It Happened to me. The person (theif) needs a little extra cash, decides to take your payment and does not send the goods. Then cancels their ebay account and paypal accounts...viola...they are off scot-free. I lost $289 on a cabruetor last spring. Ebay refunded $125 of it through their standard insurance, but the rest was out of pocket for me. I hate a thief worse than anything.
The guy that got me was using "stock" photos and verbiage in his auction. He took people (around the same time as me) for thousands.
Never bid on an item with only the manufacturers "stock" photo and verbiage... unless it is, in fact, the manufacturer. Private parties using the manufacturers "stock" photos and verbiage in their auctions are way bad news.
Z10Joey Aug 25th, 05, 10:54 AM I see more people going back to the good old fashion US Postal money orders. It's slow but at least you're not giving ebay any money. I think the only way to combat ebay and their money making machine is to put in your auction to email an offer. Just before the auction ends, cancel the auction and deal with the person one on one. You avoid the commission fees and only pay the listing fee. One disadvantage is no feedback to leave if you get screwed. Well, I guess my plan isn't perfect! ;)

I'm in Laurel but visit Carol County on a regular basis. My cousin is having a pig roast wedding this Saturday in Carol County. YEE HA ;)
Also, 2 weeks? The Maryland Camaro Club is having a Camaro and Chevy show September 10th (Columbia, MD @ Lincoln Tech) about 20 minutes from where you'll be. Should be a lot of first gens Z28's, a couple Z11's, two Z10's, along with a bunch of other beautiful Camaros and Chevy's. Jerry MacNeish usually brings "Old Reliable" to display, unfortunately not this year. Stop by if you're in the area.
Jeff H Aug 25th, 05, 08:07 PM It doesn't matter what form of payment you use when dealing with a long distance transaction. You can get screwed many different ways. Ebay has nothing to do with it. Scammers use Ebay, Yahoo, Hemmings, etc. I just won an auction for a brand new OMC binnacle mount shifter with power trim for $42. This item lists for $325 and sells for $275. I already received it and it truly is what the seller claimed. Brand new with all the fittings still in the OMC bags. So there are good deals out there and scammers out there. I've been scammed along with lots of other people. But I've learned what not to do and what types of auctions look like scams and I've been lucky since being scammed several years ago.

From Sykeville take 32 East (It might say 32 south up where you are but it will eventually say east). You will then enter the Columbia area and pass 108. Once pass 108 you will go about 2-3 miles to Broken Land PKWY. Take that North (or to the left) Make a right at the first traffic light intersection onto Snowden River PKWY. Lincoln Tech is about a mile down on the right. Show is from 10am - 3pm. I'll be there at 7 am.
I'll also email these to ya, but I posted in case anyone else is in the area.
