Some of you may remember that about a year and a half ago I posted that a guy on ebay ripped me and several other off (Ebay ID: chevynut1969).

He was selling engines on ebay, 454 LS6's, 427/425hp, etc.

I "bought" a 1969 427/425 that was supposed to be pristine and rebuilt. His MO was that he ended the auction early, saying that there were deadbeat bidders, and that you could have the engine at your high bid (remember this was just the begining of the scam era). He also had 100% pos feedback, with many engines being sold.

What you got shipped was a junkyard block on a pallet. Something close but worthless. I got a 72 402 out of a monte. At least , mine was a complete engine. Thus, you got an "engine" and got a product for your money, so the police looked at it (civial matter, not supposedly criminal)

When you tracked down the phone number and called the *****, you quickly got an earfull. You also found out that he was not a "retired mechanic" but a college punk.

When you called the police in the local area, you got an earful from them about the woes of using the internet.

After seeing several others bidding on his engines, I emailed them and warned them. Ebay "removed" me for the "violation" of their policies. He still had 100% pos feedback.

I kept those email addresses, and after several others were similarly taken in, I called the FBI in seattle (near his hometown of Bellington). Turns out, he also took a senator's son with the same scheme (might be the only reason they acted on it?). Soon he was arrested again!

It took a year, but they finally prosecuted the punk, and today I got my first restitution check for $84.25 (we'll see how many more I get). He also got some very lienient jail time (30 days I think?).

Frame it, or scan it. I had a person start paying once years ago and all I got was one check. Just pi$$ed me off all over again that he got away with not paying. I did see him about 6 years later getting out of a very nice new BMW in a mall parking lot going to the late night movies. I have never done anything like this before and never have again, but it got a nice keyed in insription on the hood and a thin line down the side. Even after the cost of the repairs if he paid for them out of pocket he was still major bucks ahead instead of paying me, but it sure felt good.
