I have a 68 coupe with the interior gutted when purchased. I purchased a headliner tack strip kit from a camaro bone yard. I'm installing the metal strip that goes on the front, above the dash but can't figure out the assembly order of the strip and the rear view mirror bracket. Which goes on first? If I put the rear view mirror bracket in first it is in the way of the tack strip.

I believe I have the right tack strip. It has a u shaped cut out in the middle that should accommodate the mirror bracket but doesn't. Help! The tack strip mounts nicely when the mirror bracket is removed. There are existing holes in the roof that line up exactly with the metal piece I purchased. I have checked a couple of catalogues ant the rear view mirror bracket is correct for the year of the car. Is the tach strip the same for 67,68 and 69?

I have a 69 and the tack strip goes on first. then the headliner then the mirror bracket. On the 69 I believe the mirror bracket screws into the tack strip. The 68 and 69 mirror bracket is the same so I would imagine it mounts the same way. Maybe you have tack strips off 67 and you need to drill the holes in the tack strip for the 68 mirror bracket.
