: top color combo
cohiba1 Aug 29th, 05, 08:55 AM I have a 68 vert w/ tuxedo black paint, a white bumble bee stripe, std black interior, black top. I am about to put a new top on and was hoping to get some input about the color. I was thinking of going w/ a white top to offset the black ext while matching the white bumble bee stripe and possibly down the road switching to a black/white houndstooth int. to match to the top/stripe. What do you guys think? How hard would it be to keep the white top clean? I think Tuxedo black came w/ a white top, no? My car was originally sequioa green..
mr396 Aug 29th, 05, 09:20 AM As the owner of a sequoia green camaro,I think you should re-paint it the original color. It is a very rare 1968 only color and looks gray.
cohiba1 Aug 29th, 05, 09:34 AM My paint is about 20 years old but looks like it was painted yesterday. No need to paint it now but would consider putting it back to original someday. Funny thing about it, I can't find a speck of green paint anywhere on it. Some red. Could have been changed just prior to being built.
BPOS Aug 29th, 05, 10:01 AM I think it would equally nice with a white or a black top. My white top is 16 yrs old and still looks nice. The key is to not let it sit out in the weather and to keep the top up and covered during the winter when you don't drive the car.
cohiba1 Aug 29th, 05, 10:32 AM Thanks BPOS. the car is garaged and covered plus living in Ca. affords me the luxury of going topless pretty much all year round. I grew up in NE Ohio so I know how harsh the weather can be. Does the top get stains from the top assembly? What do you use to clean it?
cohiba1 Aug 29th, 05, 10:33 AM BPOS. What color is the exterior of your car?
cohiba1 Aug 29th, 05, 11:27 AM Not many vert owners here today I guess? So does anyone have a black convertible w/ a white top? A pix would be great. Thanks in advance.
67 Swedish Convertible Aug 29th, 05, 12:41 PM No...not a black with white top. But I do have an ermine white with black top. Don't know how old the top is (looks fresh) but the black is turning greyish on some spots. Is there any way of getting it back to "black" without actually painting it or replacing it?
:beers:
BPOS Aug 29th, 05, 01:36 PM My 69 is Hugger Orange. This is what the trim tag is coded for - HO with a white top - so that's what I went with. I like the color combo just fine. Not my first choice, but oh well.
The white top shows soil at the folds from being stored in the well. I just use Windex glass cleaner, and it cleans up fine. I generally leave my top down all summer long, and put it back up in the winter. The key is never letting it get truly dirty.

cohiba1 Aug 29th, 05, 04:43 PM BPOS, nice ride! Your top looks great for how old it is. I was reading my restoration book and as far as I can tell tuxedo black came w/ a white top. I figured the folds and/or top assembly would cause the top to get dirty. As mentioned I have triple black, ext/int/top and it gets so hot in summer and was thinking of doing something different. Thought white would really give it a more tuxedo like look. Would post a pic here but I don't think I'm set up for that.
Mark C Aug 29th, 05, 06:32 PM Black car would have a white top from the factory

cohiba1 Aug 30th, 05, 11:40 AM Mr396. Dig the wheels! Original paint? That is pretty much what my car looked like off the line if the tag is correct.
mr396 Aug 30th, 05, 12:28 PM Thanks Joe, My color code is V2. if you look at the crg web site http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml#ColorPercentages suquoia green is fairly rare with 2.3 % and tuxedo black 4.4 %.
