Hello,

I purchased all the console parts (slider plate, slider plate rails, etc. etc..)

I can't see how the slider plate fits in there. Anyone do this?

Also, does that other rubber piece, just sit on top of the boot?

Thanks,
Nick

it's similar in my 68...the slider plate runs in a groove in the console trim, and is retained by the 2 plates on each side underneath. It all has to be assembled from the bottom. The rubber thing just slides over the shift stick. After a week or 2, the rubber thing will work it's way down the stick an inch or 2, showing a gap, and the slider will get all scratched up from moving back and forth. Also the slider will be very noisy when shifting gears. One of these days I'm gonna go with a 69 console trim and tunnel and get rid of that nasty slider. 'fraid that's not an option for a 67, console is a different shape.

maybe some suplus felt strips from the astro vent seal kit will quiet down the slider?

Thanks Jim,

I'm thinking "Why did I spend all this money on all these console parts"
Previous, I was using a "non console" shift boot, that came cup through the console & almost looked factory, it actually looked cool. I'm trying to put it back the right way, & not only is it a P.I.T.A., from what your saying it will be noisy & get scratched up... Dam!

Thanks again for your input.

I had the same problem with my new '68 console. The slider plate has to be adjusted so it's not too loose (it will move around too much) or too tight (impedes shifting). No matter what I did, within a few days the plate was scratched, I flipped it over to the other side, same result. I ruined two plates that way until I scrapped the whole idea and went with at "non-console" boot that sticks through the console. Not exactly stock but it looks nice, better than the scratched-up plate.

Terry,

That's what I had originally! now I purchased all the stock parts (probably about $75-100), shifter plate, screws, sliders, slider plate, boot & rubber piece...etc...
& in the end I think I was better off with what I had. ARRGGH!
Sometimes trying to get the stock look just isn't worth it..

Thanks for your input :)

I am on my second Hurst Superboot in my car. It looks not bad but the boot will wear out over time as it is not a perfect fit and rubs on the console shifter plate.

Exactly, the boot in my console hits the mounting posts from the underside of the console plate, I thought about cutting them off but then it's not as strong structurally...I've also considered getting rid of the console altogether, I like the console look but shifting would be simpler w/o it.

I originally went with the 68 stuff cause the 69 woodgrain is different and wouldn't be correct. This year, I've peeled of fthe woodgrain to find smooth shiny chrome under it (it was starting to peel, 3 years on a repro part!)

Next time I feel like messin with it, I'm gonna get a 69 console plate, with the boot that goes under it, and eliminate that slider completely!
