Ok a while ago i posted about my door panels being standard instead of deluxe. Well the plot thickens.

I have always known that the mirrors on the camaro are 68. So i went an bought a pair of 67 mirrors and decided to install them this weekend. So not knowing any better i tok the old mirrors off and guess what. The holes do not match the new mirrors. I figured maybe someone might have jsut installed the 68 mirrors when they repainted the car. However NOW i am thinking someone switched out the doors for a 68 instead of a 67. is that possible? Is there a way to tell if the doors are from a 68? If they are from a 68 will i still be able to put 67 deluxe panels on it.

Thanks,
Z

Sure it's possible. The doors are interchangable. The panels will fit fine.

Door hinges are different. 68 has four bolt holes, 67's have three (I think). I know they are different and don't interchange. Someone with a 67 will have to tell you the exact difference though.

Do the doors have vent windows?

yes... that is what puzzles me.. could it be that when they redid the paint and the interior at some point they went on the cheap?

But why in the heck would they put the 68 mirrors on it.. I guess to put the 7 on them i would have to fill in the holes with the welder and then drill new ones for the screws on the new mirrors. That sucks. Are there any templates out there with the measurements on where the mirrors should go?

Stock mirrors do not have screws into the door. They have a bracket that gets screwed to the door, and the mirror gets attached to the bracket with a set screw on the back of the mirrore. If your mirrors screw directly to the door, they are not originals.

I changed mirrors on my 69 from a new GM to an original, and the brackets did not interchange. I ended up having to modify a bracket by gringing one end a little thinner, and drilling an additional hole.
Bot sure what you have, but wouldn't drilling a new hole in the bracket be better than

Another difference between the 67 and 68 doors would be across the top inside of the door. The 67 door is painted steel and the door panel only covers the flat inside area of the door and stops about 3-4 inches from the top and the weatherstip is attached directly to the door. The 68 door is covered by the door panel across the top which 'folds' over into the window channel with the weatherstrip attached to the it.
They can be made to work, but it would be a lot of work and quite obvious they didn't belong.

well then they are 67 doors if that is the case. (wipes sweat of brow)

I could drill another hole but the 68 mirrors are longer than the 67.SO that would make one hole visible even with the 67 mirrors on the door. :)
