I have looked a long time for GM quarters for my 68 convertible, I am about to give up and buy a reproduction set. Can anybody suggest the best aftermarket quarters available.

Thanks a bunch

I've been looking for years also; now I see D&R advertising full factory style repro quarters on Ebay. I've been waiting to hear some feedback on their fit before I order some-- so far, I haven't heard any.

First - I would like to welcome you both to Team Camaro :beers:

As for your question about finding GM Quarters - you don't list the area you are in... This is a problem. If you want the best info we can give - give us a hint of who you are and where you are...
If we knew the area we may/might be able to give you a local resource. I only know west coast resources and contacts.
The parts you want are "out there" - both in price and availablity... I have found OEM sheet metal for most of the people I have looked for - but, it usually costs big money. Are you ready for some of the quotes you're gonna get?
If this is a street driver project I would really recommend you consider the GoodMark/Repop stuff, that is why the stuff is available. It will fit and look good, if you work with it. Trust me, even some of the late available GM stuff left something to be desired in the fit-finish department. Having the little blue sticker on the inside didn't meen I didn't have to work some wrinkles out of the lower fender corners...
Past posts like this - http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60575&page=2&pp=15&highlight=quarter%2A+panels - can give you good information to make your choices.
Do a 'Search' using "quarters*", "Goodmark*", "Panels*" or ??? for past posts and read through ALL the posts for info on which way to go... (note: - using the "*" on the end of your search word will give it a 'wild-card' function and give you more hits on a search.)
NEVER overlook the power of time spent searching on this site

Hope some of this helps;
John

OK, here's the story. I have a 68 convertible that I've had for about 8 years. So far, I've found new front fenders, header panel, cowl panel, and rear spoiler- all from my friendly GM dealer a while back when they were still availiable. NOS quarter availability for the past few years of searching has been slim to none; can I get them? yeah, I bet I can for about 5 or 6 grand a pair. I drive my cars so this is way out of the question.

I've been waiting for full repros to come out, to which they've apparently been released by D&R's "Hugger Performance", as seen on EBAY. I believe Dynacorn is stamping them for their future "1968 replacement body" and selling them through D&R (but don't ask "Joe Parts" on dynacorn's web site, he'll just give you some vague, half a$$ answer; ask me how I know?). I believe that D&R and Classic Industries has a 6 month exclusive. As far as I've heard, Goodmark has dropped the possibility of making the panel, due to this competition. My question is will it fit? Can I make it fit? I can probably make a Mustang quarter fit with enough time and die grinder blades, but thats pretty much what I feel like I'm doing with half of the junk repro parts on the market. I can make 80% quarters fit, but I don't want the extra seams it will take to splice them in (visible in the trunk). To me, Factory style quarters make for a much nicer finished restoration.

I'm just looking for some feed back on their fit, if anyone has seen or tried them. I do my own restoration work and sub nothing out.

Here's a pic of my driver 71 camaro I built from an $800 shell: http://webpages.charter.net/RatbonesXX/carlisle.jpg
(350, 700-r4, PS, PB, PL, PW, AC(factory system from a 77 w/ R-4 compressor), tilt, keyless entry, 373 posi, PST polygraphite bushings, Global West subframe connectors, yada, yada).

As my profile states- I'm in Connecticut
Although I'm new, I have been lurking for the past 8 years or so and researching my options; now that they're available, I'm ready to get started tearing into it.

Hey Ratbones thanks for the information, I have also seen the D&R quarters on Ebay and it makes sense about Dynacorn stamping these. The last time I looked a Joe's parts he acted like the 68 shell will be out in spring of 2006 so it makes sense they already have the quarters in production. I am like you I would like to look at or here how these D&R quarters work, I live about six hours from Chicago I might have to go up and look at them or see them at a big show here in the midwest.

Thanks ckaram, I guess I have gotten some of my projects done!

drhuntr- I've been taking to goodmark for several years and they've been consistantly telling me "about 6 more months or so"; I figured I would wait it out rather than use the skins available. What kills me is that a few years back I restored a 1966 Mustang Convertible using repro factory style quarters- they fit excellent and sold for $110 ea! I have found that the Camaro repro parts are extremely overpriced and are mostly poor quality. The dash bezel on my '71 , for example, was $130 and is a piece of $hit. The bezel on the Mustang was about $30 and looked like a fine piece of jewelry! I really don't even mind paying, I just wish they would make parts WORTH paying for!

Just a little new information on conv. quarters. I called Classic Industries yesterday and found out they are in the process of retooling their quarters and they would not be out till late 2005.

Actually, I don't think Classic ever had any available to "retool". They've had them listed in their catalog for the last few years but never actually had them. Maybe D&R is the only company w/ a six month exclusive, Classic will probably have them after that runs out. I do know that D&R is selling them, but I'd like to hear an unbiased review as to their fit. Chevy High Performance magazine (or was it Super Chevy?) this month shows what it takes to fit a coupe quarter on a convertible; not a fun job! I really hope these repros are usable; I think they will be or it will make the crew at C.A.R.S. Inc. miserable as they try to assemble the repro bodies.

80% quarters from goodmark worked well on my convertible.

Hey Vintage68.....PM or eml me a quote for a NOS mint 67 Camaro convert pass side qtr...I'm in San Jose, CA.

I am in the same boat. Been waiting for almost a year now and keep getting told to be patient, but havent gotten the scoop as to what exactly I'm waiting for and by whom! Word I got was that a real good full qtr is coming out for the converts, but not sure by whom. I assumed that they would be US made and not another POS import.

Arent those from D&R... imports? I get cynical about the words import and quality in the same sentence...for sheet metal.

Please let us know the scoop. I am about out of 'other' things i can do while waiting. Who is the 'long awaited' manufacturer?
