I own a 67 camaro that is need of some body repair. Now its not terrible stuff, not like fenders falling off or anything. As you can see in my sig shes not in too bad of shape. My dilima arises that I do all of my own work on all my cars. I refuse to pay someone to do work on my car. Sooo... I have recently found a bunch of rust that needs to be cut out and replaced with virgin metal on teh floorpan firewall area. However I have ZERO experience doing body work. I do have a neighbor and friend that have welders and experience that are willing to help and let me use thier equipment, but I would also like to learn as best as I can about what it is exactly I am doing. Is there any good books that people can recomend that would detail body replacement, welding techniques, Ect.. not necessaly paint prep as I have a few of those already, although they do go hand in hand.

My wife and I are taking a 10 session course at the local tech school on stick welding to learn some of the basics there this fall.

Any suggestions..???? Thanks

Instead of stick welding you might want to consider a class in MIG.

I thought about that but I dont think that it is being offered this fall. I figure any knowledge is better than no knowledge.. :)

Very true :).

If you plan on doing a lot of welding, pick up a copy of HPBooks Welder's Guide (or handbook, I forget the title). It will have some good info for you.

Dude
Buy a mig and some gas. My 11 year old son can mig weld. Its not hard at all and looks 1000% better. Just get some scrap and practice a bit. you will never stick weld agin!
