I have not installed my wiring harness yet and I would like to start the new 302 and break the cam in. Can I run a wire from the battery to the + side of the coil? Will I be able to run it for about 20 min? All fluids are in.

Personally I would use a ballast resistor in line with the wire. The big white ceramic blocks with two terminals. They used to include them with the old super coils. The old mopars used them as well. If you owned one of those cars you always kept a spare in the glove box. Twenty minutes will be a little rough on the points and coil without one.

I think he's confusing a roller cam for a solid flat tappet cam, which most definitely should be broken in properly.

I like the idea of a ballast resistor in the hot wire. I'd also think a switch in the same wire would be a good idea if you need to shut it off in a hurry. Or I suppose if you use an alligator clip, you could pull it off at the battery end.

I used one of those mopar balast resister, it smoked... then i ran the car for a month without it, points were fine, or at least still functional
