View Full Version : Will Paint Adhere to Chrome? X33D80 Sep 9th, 05, 08:07 PM Will paint adhere to chrome if you media-blast it first? MARTINSR Sep 9th, 05, 10:09 PM Epoxy prime it first, no problem. Brian X33D80 Sep 10th, 05, 05:20 AM I am considering applying ralley wheel paint to the center section of some chrome plated wheels. Is media-blasting of this surface a plus? Does the ralley wheel paint require primer? Sorry, I should have been more specific with my initial post. Thank you. MARTINSR Sep 10th, 05, 09:32 AM There are still a lot of unanswered questions, what is the media? Plastic media for instance will do NOTHING, the chrome won't even loose it's shine. What is "Rally wheel paint"? Are we talking a rattle can from Eastwoods? If so, it would come off for sure if it were painted without epoxy primer on that chrome. If you use a fine sand or bead and or just scuff the crap out of it with a red scuff pad and then epoxy (a good epoxy) it is going to hold. Give Barry at SPI (Southern Polyurethanes INC.) a call and he will tell you what epoxy and how to prep. http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/homepage.htm Brian X33D80 Sep 10th, 05, 10:21 AM Media would be fine sand, or glass beads, which should make an impression in the chrome surface. The paint probably would come from Eastwood or one of the Camaro parts suppliers in a rattle can. I will give Barry a call, he is almost in my neighborhood. Thank you for the info and for the link to SPI. |
