My wife calls me at work Friday to tell me about a 2002 Z-28 with a 6 speed manual in it. We checked it out Saturday. It had 1480 miles on it. We commenced negotiations and now I finally have a hot-rod to drive. (My 68 is still in a stage of reassembly. ). Thats the really good news.

The bad news is that it doesn't seem to shift real smooth. Reverse is next to impossible to get into and first is plenty stiff. The 1-2 shift is by no means hi perfromance. I'll persue the subject in the tranmsission forum.

Overall, I couldn't be happier. Cudos to the wife for that one. She convinced me to buy it - but she didn't have to work hard to do it. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Check the fluid level for the hydraulic clutch.

if the fluid level for the clutch is low, would that not mean that the clutch is getting worn out, and maybe needing replacment? sure sounds like the symptoms of a clutch going south to me.
your first upgrade could be a Centerforce clutch, and since you probably need to unhook it anyways, maybe put some better exhaust under it. that's a good way to justify making mods- "honey, i HAD to get the Flowmaster exhaust and ceramic coated headers, because one of the mounting bolts on the original system broke when i took it off to get the tranny out."

The trans has an electronic reverse lock out switch. They made it that way because the reverse gear is synchronized and you can shift into reverse at any speed without a safety device. If the switch doesn't work you'll only be able to put it in reverse using a lot of force. This will not damage anything (as long as you're standing still) but is annoying. Is there a warranty?

I updated my post about the clutch in the transmission forum, but thought I'd do the same here. GM replaced the clutch, flywheel, and slave cylinder free of charge. The theory is that the slave cylinder was "leaking down" and allowing the clutch to remain in contact with the flywheel. They said the flywheel was blue and the clutch was fried. With 1500 miles on it, unless someone intentionally fried the clutch, it definately appears to have been a factory issue.
