Been thinking about using electric type lifts to open the hood on my 68...maybe something that could mount on either side on the core support and lift the hood using the stock hinges without springs...have not seen anything posted about anyone who has tried it, or a source for the electric lifts...any thoughts?

www.autoloc.com is about the best quality i know of. I've used there solonoids for shaved door handles and there electronic trunk release.

Electrc-life has a reverse opening electric hood lift kit. It must use an aftermarket glass hood and is not cheap. http://electric-life.com/images/console/Template2_1x3.jpg

One of these (http://www.autoloc.com/search.lasso?itemcode=1-3) should work. They're not that expensive.

Yes...that is what I was looking at...but in order to mount it to the core support and life the hood high enough, it would have to have quite a bit of extension, uness I can mount it furthur back on the hood, closer to the hinges, but there is not really any place to mount it back there.

I got one of the AutoLoc 250 lbs Linear Actuators to use to lift the hood on my Maco. I've worked out the mechanism on paper a few different ways, but haven't actually built it yet.

For a Camaro, you should take your cues from a 3rd gen Camaro where their gas struts are... will still need decent length extend.

24" seems to be the max for Autoloc. Those struts are not much longer are they?

You could consider an electric tail gate lift off a mini van. Chrysler Town and Country mini van in particular. You might be able to find a used one at the recycler or a new set-up from the dealer. Stop at a dealer and look at how they work to see if that will fit your needs.
