: 69 "Z" front ride height
smith69z Sep 15th, 05, 12:33 PM I was standing back checking out some body work and noticed that the front of my car looks lower then it used too. I completly rebuilt the front end including replacing the springs (for 69 Z28) from Ricks. It looks like my front sits lower then it should :-( or I remember. Since there are no shows until the end of the month would anyone have the distance from the ground to the top of the fender well on their Z? I hope I wasn't sent the wrong springs!
It seemed to have settled more then I wanted.
Always something with this car :-(

zdld17 Sep 15th, 05, 07:11 PM I am looking at an AMA Spec page I got from nice people when I registered my car ..Under the 2 dr Coupe Curb height from the rocker panel to ground , I read Front 8.1" Rear 6.8". I think this is for the base car as I read the same for Z28 option.
My factory Z always did sit low when new. To keep from bottoming or getting lower, I added the offroad 500# rate , .750 wire front coil springs. Seems to be the same 30+ years later.
smith69z Sep 16th, 05, 07:16 AM Thanks Guys, I check to see "how low" I really am.

That's a typo in the AMA specs for the rear rocker-to-ground height. For a Z/28, front rocker-to-ground (measured 33" aft of the front wheel center) is 9.13", and rear rocker-to-ground (measured 20" forward of the rear wheel center) is 8.75" with a full fuel tank.
The measurement technique for the front suspension (for "Z" height, which measures spring deflection at design load, independent of wheel and tire size), is shown in the Assembly Manual in Section 0, Sheet A10; that's the measurement that will tell you if your front springs have sagged.
:beers:
smith69z Sep 16th, 05, 06:30 PM Thanks John, They have sagged worst then an 80 year old women. Sadly they are only 3 months old. RICKS!!!!!
pdq67 Sep 16th, 05, 08:07 PM JohnZ,
Correct me if I am wrong, but the Area Rep. I had come in after the pass. side coil sagged, (AND my Dealer said "f--k you"), said +/- a 1/2" was fine AND I said B/S!!
The Dealer I bought my car from ended up selling me a pair of BB, A/C springs for like $22.00/pr. and installing them for free after much cussing and yelling on my end!!
WAY back then.... Fall of '69 or so???
And the coil springs are up on my shelf now!!

zdld17 Sep 18th, 05, 06:53 AM Thanks for the Typo information,,, I always did wonder why my car was closer to 9" than what the AMA indicated.
I am sitting at 7 3/4 frt and 8.0 rear after 36 years with these off road springs.. Not bad but is low.

All suspension checking dimensions (rocker-to-ground and front "Z" and rear "D" height) carry a production tolerance of +/- 3/8". It's possible to be at both extremes (3/8" high on one side and 3/8" low on the other side), which would show 3/4" difference from side-to-side and still be technically "in spec".

pdq67 Sep 18th, 05, 08:32 PM Thanks John,
I got really hot when they gave me the run-a-round the first visit b/c the pass. side of my dash was visibly lower and it really bugged me every time I looked through the right side of my windshield and glanced at my dash-pad slanting downwards on that side!!
Car drove and rode fine tho..
