View Full Version : I Want to Lower My 67!!!!!!!
jay'srs/ss Sep 16th, 05, 12:51 PM I'm gonna be lowering my 67 RS/SS 350 soon. What Manufacturers do you recommend? I know of Hotchkis, Global West, Eibach. Do you go with lowering springs and drop spindles, or just drop spindles? How do you lower the rear? My car has monoleaf springs, a 12 bolt rearend, and a factory traction bar on the passenger side. Any info is appreciated. :beers:
Jason

There about a billion posts on the subject. Run a few searches and see what you come up with. Drop spindles are generally not the way to go in lowering the front.
Have you stopped by the Tag Team forum here and listed your VIN and cowl tag numbers for the CRG guys?
400bird Sep 16th, 05, 05:21 PM i would recomend the hotchkis TVS kit if you like a stiff ride and great handling, im very happy with it
Poncho Sep 16th, 05, 06:53 PM 400bird. Pontiac engine or chevy? If Pontiac, were the front coils for a BBC or SBC?
pdq67 Sep 16th, 05, 07:57 PM Looking back on this, I would use roundy-round short coil's and adjustable screw jack cans or whatever they call them for the front!
I say this b/c it is easy to install springs, but takes time!!
AND the time is R&R'ing them, cutting and a trying several times to get the height you want! PLUS, hoping that after the cutting, they don't settle too much later!
With short springs and cans, all you have to do is adjust the big screw and bring it up to the height you want. No spring compressor!!
Guy's what's the correct term for them??
For the back, go with a set of custom front biased h-d leaf springs that have been posted here under Chicane's name in the past IF I recall right!! Pricey, but really the best way to do it stock-like..
I created my rear springs the cheap way from new, JCW, H-D, '68 Nova three leaf mono replacements by adding the second and third leaves from my old broken down, '68 'Bird stock, lo-po multi's AND now will have to figure out how to set them at the height I want UNLESS I go back to running a great big tall tire like I used to..
I figure cutting and using only the front half's of the added leaves should do it BUT again, it is a trial and error deal so more R&R until I like it in the rear!!!
pdq67
PS., I figure my car has about 525 pound front coils and about 175 to MAYBE 200 pound leaf's after all this to go with my BB motor now.
Plus, try to set the front ride height so that the lower A-arm is as parallel with the ground as you can get it too!!

I haven't listed my vin and cowl tag. I've ran it myself numerous times. I'll give it a shot.

The listing is for the CRG guys (Camaro Research Group) over at camaros.org. They keep a registry on first generation camaros and help us all with tons and tons of factual data from all of their research. If you haven't yet, you should register for their forums as well. You can find out a ton of information on their site alone, as well as tons of help from their forums too.
CFunK Sep 17th, 05, 12:49 AM Well said Christopher.
Cal69 Sep 19th, 05, 05:45 PM Hotchkis front & back. Improves handling tenfold and you do not need to keep cutting coils (and mess up the spring rate). I converted to this system & have been very happy with it. I had cut up 2 pairs of coils in 15 years trying to keep the ideal ride height before the springs settled (and rode like sh*t).
Spend the extra $$$ and get the front sway bar also. It's well worth the additional $160.
400bird Sep 20th, 05, 03:12 PM Poncho- ive got a pontiac in my 67, of course (wouldnt want to say anything about chevy motors in pontiacs here)
but i went with the small block coils, should have gotten big block coils up front its a little to low, right now my front tires are 25" tall think im going taller next time for more ground clearance
i called hotchkis and asked them, both springs are the same 600 lb spring rate just the big blocks are about 1/2" longer unsprung, so about 1/2" in the car
i would have ordered big block springs but summit was out of stock on the BB and 1 month wait time (oh and check prices because summit is definantly cheaper than ordering from hotchkis directly)
