Jonesy Sep 18th, 05, 06:58 AM I remember this car being for sale before. Back then it wasnt advertised as the first one built and I believe it sold fairly cheap. It is amazing that this car is in this shape and still around. It was in California the first time around.
Kurt S Sep 18th, 05, 09:49 AM I believe I posted when this car came up before.
#'s don't line up. I know of several 70 LA Camaros with build dates before this car. Tag looks fine for that date, VIN isn't.

Maybe the other cars you have seen where vined after this car and built before it? I don't know if that's possible or not?

Body tag goes on first. The other cars were built a month+ before this one.....
bilodeaulynn Sep 18th, 05, 09:00 PM I assume 2nd gens have hidden VIN's. Are they in roughly the same place as the first gen?

Dave Birdwell Sep 19th, 05, 07:31 PM Kurt- That would give reason why the higher BDY number. I had always heard that the 70's went on sale Feb 23rd, 1970.
Early70SS402 Aug 23rd, 09, 05:51 PM Hello Fellas, I own a 70 Camaro SS 396 350 HP from the VanNuys CA. Plant.
The build date on my car is 01E. The full tag reads ST 70-12487 BL 03149
TR 712 75 75
01E 414171 300036
That means, 70 Camaro V-8 VanNuys, Deluxe Black int,Cranberry Red paint,Fifth week of January build date. My car has several 69 dated items including the gauges , and the seatbelts, however many 1-70 date codes are present including the 12 bolt rear housing and gears, the pedal assy. My 70 could be one of the earliest SS 396 Camaros made in CA. Rick...
Early70SS402 Aug 23rd, 09, 06:07 PM Feb 27 1970 was the day you could get your 70 Camaro, or FireBird. My car has a Pass Ca smog tag 2-27-70 on the driver door,at the jam.
twozs Aug 24th, 09, 07:15 AM holy back from the dead thread batman, this puppys 4 years old! but anyway welcome. this is a great site but www.nastyz28.com is all second gen camaro. i mean if the car went on sale in the end of Feb they were in production at least 2 weeks before that with pilots being run earlier than that
