Hello,

What is a completely rebuilt DZ302 , .030 over with exchange heads, 3991492s on instead of the '186s'? also missing intake & carb... the front pad stamping/#s are: V0212DZ", partial vin "19L524909" The block casting# is 3956618. casting date of block 'A309'.

I have a LOS built Z28 (vin of 529080), build date of (04C)., I plan to install it in if purchased...

Purchase price and worth are two things. It is probably worth around $4K if it is a quality rebuild. Many people will disagree because they don't see the worth of a non-matchinf DZ. You might be able to do better buying just a block, rods and crank. Pistons will set you back $500 cost. Machining, parts and assembly maybe $1000 depending where you live. I have about $5000 in my long block, new pistons, rebuilt heads, parts and assembly. Add another $3000 for distributor, carb and alternator etc.

thanks Gary...thats what i figured....I figure the orig DZ stamp & being for an orig Los Angles camaro is also pretty neat and worth a little more? it is a gamble buying something site unseen and no guarantee assoc.

Dave, I have bought two DZ motors in the last year. Both date correct for my cars. Other then one having the wrong balancer on # 1 both are what they had been advertized. Both completely rebuilt. Motor one (.20 over) : no, carb, dist, alt starter, pulleys or clutch asembely I paid 5K,
#2 (.40 over) no dist, alt or starter. I paid 6K. Both sellers have been a pleasure to work with and both motors do have the DZ stamps and Vins on them. I even have the bill of sale and POP for the one motors car. I spoke to the second owner in hopes of finding the car but it was crushed long ago. Rusted beyond repair. I yhope these numbers help.

thanks Gary...I guess 5k is a fair price, but wish it had the correct 186 heads, and not the 1492 exchange pcs, any idea what they go for in todays market, all rebuilt.

I am guessing $600-700. I am not really up to speed on prices right now.Try to keep the original seats. Jerry MacNeish told me not to let the machine shop do hard seats and anything to ruin originalty. It is worth getting him to do what you can afford to do. If you go original on the distributor have him rebuild it. You have to decide what price you can afford to pay for parts. It seems $5K w/o 186 heads may be a tad expensive.

"Use the GM (head) gasket, 10105117. This is a better gasket for the engine. I don't know all the details on how you rebuilt the engine and only hope that the machine shop did not talk you into changing anything from stock. This includes hardened seats in the heads. Use an AC44, 44S or Champion J12YC in the engine. Do not use a hotter plug or a colder plug. We have spent years getting the right mix for today's gas."
