: Air Shocks

The top of my air shocks are about 1/2" from the back of my tire (P255/60R/15) on 15x8x4 1/2" backset. Although I haven't had a problem this does concern me a bit. I was thinking about spacers, may 5/16" or even 7/16".

Any thoughts on this subject? My camaro is a 68.

I don't see a reason to worry. The shock is not going to move side to side and if it ever does you have bigger problems.

1/2" is plenty of clearance
on some new toyotas there is less that 1/4" of clearance for the front struts to tire

That is more than enough gap.

I had to remove mine due to wide tires hit the shocks unless aired down completly and then they didn't work.

Thanks for the comments gentlemen. I'm going to keep an eye on this and interestingly enough it's only on the drivers side. I have more than twice that space on the passenger side.

Anyone ever use spacers? I'd feel a little bit better if I had a bit more distance but not sure how spacers would effect the rear if anything.

That's interesting. Double the space on one side. Hmmm. Is the axle centered under the car left to right?

CFunk:

It appears that this is normal for the 68 as one of the members of my camaro club has a 68 SS with the same tires and rims and if you look at his car the passenger side tire sits a bit further out than the drivers side.

He actually mentioned this in passing several months ago at a meeting. Now, I have a 10-bolt rear and he may as well. Not sure if that's the reason why. It would be interesting to know why this is not exactly centered. We both have mono-leaf springs?

Thanks,
Mitch
