Here is the problem. A couple weeks ago went to start car and nothing(no click,no noise, nothing.Like having no batt.) Had car towed to Goodyear, and replaced the starter. They called a few hours later and asked if I had a kill switch on it cause the car wouldnt start.Said no to the kill switch, and asked them to check batt and alt. Batt and alt checked out O.K.,but still no start.Mech called back an hour later and said the car started and was running fine.Drove the car for 3 weeks and started having problems starting when it was hot.Would crank like a champ when cold, but you drive it for about 30 mins and the starter would click while starting and it would turn over real slow.Replaced the batt and now the car wont start at all again.Batt, alt, starter are all new and I replaced the fuse links near the starter.Still nothing! Every once in a while when you turn the key to the on position the volt meter will go up to 13-14 like it normally would when you would start it,but as soon as you turn the key to crank it,the meter falls back to 0 and nothing.Have tried to jump start it(nothing),and took the batt back to autozone to be checked(FINE)! PLEASE HELP! :clonk:

Please type in a way that makes it easier to read! :) That’s tough on the eyes!
Odd intermittent problems are usually connections or switches. This could be more than 1 problem.
Every once in a while when you turn the key to the on position the volt meter will go up to 13-14 like it normally would when you would start it, but as soon as you turn the key to crank it, the meter falls back to 0 and nothing…
I might lean towards a bad ignition switch. They are cheap enough to change out. Just do it. Might fix everything. Might fix nothing. In my old 76 (first car), that switch would act up if the car got hot (as in sitting in the sun). I got stuck on the top deck of a Yankee Stadium parking garage in the Bronx. Oh boy. I changed it the next day.
…started having problems starting when it was hot…
So Goodyear replaced a starter for nothing? Because that is what I hear. But that is water under the bridge at this point. Nonetheless, it sounds like a bad wire or cable somewhere. Bad battery cable and/or connector either at the starter or at the battery. Or a bad ground cable off the battery. Do you have ground straps to the block too?
Go buy a manual. And spend some time at nastyz28.com Good 2nd gen site! And parts are a plenty for an 81. I have much less luck with my 77. Good luck, it’s a lot of work!
