I take it you got the package from VVS?

I think they are based out of Oshawa. Check the paperwork to see if it lists the dealer it was delivered to originally.

Yes the package came from VVS, I just live an hour from Oshawa. Where it says who the dealer that the car was sent to is

Dealer - G.M of Canada Company Car - Sales Dept. Oshawa Ontario

I have asked a GM dealership here in town and what they tell me is that the car could of been ordered by a GM executive for his personal use who works at GM in Oshawa, it could of been a display vehicle or driven by a GM employee.

It never went to any dealer, it was delivered to GM office or whatever in Oshawa.

I once purchased a GM program car form dealer that said on the window sticker is was delivered to the Olds assembly plant in Lansing Mi from the Cutlass Assembly plant in Kansas City.

For 30 yrs our fleet vehicle were delivered to our motor transport faciltiy. Ordered thru a big leasing company and ship from the assmbly to us. I was there once when they were unloading about 10 truckloads of state police cruzers.

That's correct - very common arrangement; most GM facilities like the Oshawa headquarters had a "Company Car Garage" with at least one full-time mechanic to maintain them, wash them, and prep incoming new cars.

John,

so by this it means it was never really sent out to a GM dealer to be sold but instead used for display/personal use? i am just wondering if there is a way to obtain more information about this like i said im only located an hour from Oshawa, someone has to have some knowledge kicking around.

how would the car of left the Headquarters? sold to another dealer? auctioned off? sold privately?

Thanks

Could have been someone's personal use car or could have been a pool car (used by everyone). Wouldn't have been displayed.

thanks,

but where would it of been sold to after that? could just about anyone of bought it or would it of been a local dealer?

I don't know if they just auctioned them off back then or sent out list of program cars and let dealers have their pick.

I worked with a guy whose brother worked for Cadillac, He was allowed 2 company cars per year. I recall once that John go his car when he was done with it (an Olds). If I recall the sale had to go thru a GM dealer and John had to pay a 1% paperwork fee to that dealer, the car was turned into GM, they reconditioned it and John and his brother picked it up from some marshalling yard in the Detroit area. Back in 1977 John got a new Chevy PU. He told his brother what he wanted, color and Trans etc. His brother ordered the truck, drove if for the 6 months and then John got it. He got his choice of engine and trans but the rest of had to come loaded. That was the only exception, it would not be a stripped down model. John did not like AC, radio, tilt wheel etc but Cadillac would not let his brother order a stripped down truck. Btw-He still has that truck and won’t sell it. Family heirloom along with his kids Gran National.

So there are all kinds of scenarios of how it comes into private hands.

At the current time, every week GM holds auctions of program cars for dealers to bid on. Program cars are leased cars, GM exec cars etc.

I had P.E. (Product Evaluation) cars for 25 years or so; unless they were "tagged" by an employee for purchase when they reached 3,000 miles, they were sent to wholesale dealer auctions when I turned them in.

This was the dealer Demo Plan wasn't it? You purchased the car with the intention of selling it . Then ordering another... all done within the year models?

No - there was no such thing within GM as a "Dealer Demo Plan", but there was some sort of arrangement like that at the dealer level. I was a GM executive that got a car every 3000 miles as part of my compensation; car was titled to GM as a company car - I just turned them in in the Company Car Garage and picked up the new one I ordered. Dealers would then buy them at wholesale auctions and sell them as a "Factory Official's Car".

well thanks for all the info its always greatly appreciated, that now makes me believe i am the second owner or my car if we don't count the time GM was using it. It sure does have quite the list of small options to just be a company car thanks again guys!

Most locations have a mandatory minimum options list for ordering cars for Company service, as low-option cars didn't bring max return at auctions; most Company cars were "loaded" for that reason, unless they were "tagged" when ordered for sale to an employee who didn't want it that way.
