I have some old beaten up cragar ss's on my 67 bird right now. They are new 14 inch tires, so I just want to get new rims.
How do I know whether they're 14x6 or 14x7??
i dont have the car at this location so i dont' know what size tires are on it.

I don't have a tape measure in my pocket...
And even if I did - your question can't be answered...
If you posted the tire size, then we could recommend a rim width range.
You will need the tire size, if you plan to keep them, before you purchase the rim size(s) recommended for that tire.
The rim width of the present rim was probably taken into account when they were mounted - it would be a good starting point.
How can you tell rim width? measure from rim-bead to rim-bead on the inside of the rim...

the tires are 215/60/14.
does that sound like a 14x7 rim?

A 215/60X14 would nominally require a rim width from 6.0" ~ 7.5".
So a 7.0" rim is right near the middle of the range and would be perfect :thumbsup:
The rim width is important to give the correct 'Section Width' to the tire and allow the tread to contact the road correctly.
Hope this helps;

Put a straight short 1x across each side on the sidewalls so you can measure down to the lips on both sides and subtract both numbers from the distance the boards are apart at the center hole.
And if you measure 7" you have 6" rim and 8" you have 7" rim.
This is b/c generally a rim is about 1/2" wider per side then the measurement between the "beads" with the tire off for strength purposes.

take the car or one wheel to a tire shop they have a guage that can tell you exactlly what width rim it is and doubt if they would charge you to do it!!!! :clonk: I wouldnt go by tire size cause i have seen way to wide of tires on wheels that were way to narrow
