: Orignal motor for 69 z28?????

Looking at buying this z28.trim tag is 12437nor21xxx 713int 69color,x33code,12c //december of 1968.motor 302 VO918DZ sept 18 built// block is 3970010 carb 3923289 ,,numbers above oil filter are 9N56xxxx that mach the trans and vin ,ser number is 124379n56xxxxstamping on block and by oil filter look to be correct.is it odd that the motor was built in sept.and car in december?????any other way to check this out, on the z28 ???waiting to here some feedback on this question, thank you for looking .PS seller stated numbers maching car/// :confused:

It is not the original engine and if that VIN is stamped on it, it was stamped by someone who didnt know what they were doing. 010 engine in a December car isnt likely as is the Sept engine in a December car.

3970010 blocks were not used until April of 69. Car should have a 386 or 388 block in it. Check the casting date of the block on the rear edge behind the passengers side head. Doesn't mean the car isn't a Z28, just that its not a matching numbers car, so don't pay matching numbers prices. Check the rest of it very carefully, if theres one restamped component, there may be more.

September 17th 1969 (I179) goes very well with an assembly date of September 18th. Probably is a real DZ block from a late Z28 that someone added the early VIN to.

I agree with Mark, someone stamped the VIN on that block. I would be skeptical if it is even a real DZ block. I would have to see the stamping.
