A black 1999 model with cloth interior owned by our vet, driven by his son. Nice shape, killer stereo, 106K miles, but needs a 4.7L V8 engine.

It came complete with french fries between the seats and console, back seat, and trash. FF had ketchup. A gazillion pennies stuck to the console dish and about the floor.

The only problem is engine is frozen, ran with no oil till it quit. I will have to pull torque convertor with engine. I'm hoping there is room between the firewall and radiator support for clearance.

A new engine assembly from dealer is $4300, new aftermarket rebuilt long block is $3400, and used engine under 50K miles is $2400. This is the route I'll choose.

Actually, its wife's car since I have a go-to-work car. She wants it for basset hound mover, 3 each, in case of hurricane evac.

Another challenge.........All suggestions will be welcomed.

I have a '96. Had it since it was new. Trouble spots: rear pinion bearings, rear axle bearings, CV joint seals and then the CV joint, transmission 2nd gear seal (but I think they fixed by '99). Here's a couple of websites I like to use for reference.

Overall it's been a great car. I've got about 94K miles on it. My transmission does have some trouble shifting when it's cold. I change the fluid and filter regularly. My pinion bearing is starting to make noise. I replaced the water pump once. Gas milage sucks (about 15mpg). Overall it's a good car. Interior finish is nice, decent power, reliable.

I own a 2002 Grand Cherokee limited 4.7L V8 and its a great car
We haul cars to the track no probs !! It tows really good !!!
Is that 4300 for a crate engine ???? Always wondered what they're worth cos they aren't too common down my end of the woods and parts are on the expensive side for us Australian Jeep owners !!

We've had 2 Grand Cherokee's, both great cars. Another possibility on the motor would be to put in a 5.2 or 5.9, not sure how hard the wiring would be, but those motors were used is the Grand Cherokee, plus about every ram truck ever built, junkyards will be full of em cheap.

Thanks, Guys for the support. My mistake, $5300 USD for a dealer engine assembly.

I think I'm going to stay with 4.7L, vehicle is set up for it and be the easiest. I don't plan on doing any towing, just hauling a load of bassets and their food.

The 4.7 will outperform the 5.2 or the 5.9 anyway. The torque curve is much better with the 4.7. I would never even consider swapping the 4.7 our for one of those other two motors. :)
