View Full Version : Wiper Blade Lacks Contact

Ok, here goes, not the biggest of problems, but still, it's annoying and maybe someone can help me :)

My Camaro is a '94, and I maintain everything as frequently as possible. I put new wiper blades on as needed, size 22, ANCO usually. There always is a lack of contact on the driver side blade towards the lower left corner as the blade wipes. It's a good 6 inch patch of windshield that the blade just doesn't contact. I've tried cleaning the windshield until it squeaks, I thought maybe there was a build up I wasn't seeing with the naked eye. Didn't help, didn't hurt. The side passenger blade cleans the windshield perfectly, always has.

Could there be a problem with the spring tension in the wiper arm? It still feels strong when I lift it, and adheres to the windshield when I place it back in position. Should I use a different size wiper blade? Different brand blade?

Anyone have this problem? Any suggestions?

Has this problem persisted through more than your current set of wiper blades? Or just since you got your last set?

The blade has to be able to slide through the metal shoes to conform to the windsheild. Any chance the grove where the shoe fits is grimed up to the point that it won't slide? Try flexing the blade in your hand to see if it will slip in the shoes. You might even try putting a tiny drop of oil or silicone in the grove to see if that helps. Sometimes when you handle the blade you can distort it and if it doesn't slip freely it won't lay down on the windshield.

Chick, I know what you mean, we had a 94 Z28 doing the same exact thing.

Turn on the wipers, and then turn the key off to stop the wipers when they reach the problem area. You will see an obvious gap. Simply bend the arms near where the blades attach. You can form them easily to the glass. Obviously, don't try to bend the plastic portion of the lower arms, they could break.

Turn the wipers on with glass cleaner on the windshield to test you work.
