My problem is I want both worlds! I have an original 69 am/fm mono and 4x10 speaker for my SS, but I also want modern FM, IPOD hookup and amps without cutting up the original stuff. But I have a couple of years to figure out how to set it up :)

I've never had a car that didn't rock. :waving: Plus, I like to listen to baseball while I drive.

My car came back to me with my original pushbotton radio in the trunk, but it doesn't work. It's up on the shelf now.....

I just put an Alpine system in with an iPod interface...that way I do not need to put a changer in the trunk.. It is in the glove and it works via a remote control so you don't even see the unit..just the stock radio..plus I have a couple thousand songs on the iPod.

This guy is good. He puts modern radio guts behind original faces and all kind of other stuff. This isn't the Custom Auto Sound crap you see. http://www.geocities.com/joesclassiccarradio/

Mine has the original AM/FM radio with front and rear speaker. I had the speakers and the radio re-coned and rebuilt by Vintage Radio in Seattle. Sounds just like it did in the 60's. We have a good Oldies station here and it sure brings back memories. I love it.

This might sound stupid, but my kids raise all sorts a h-ll with me b/c I like my "Golden Oldies" mono!! They ask why and I say b/c that is the way I remember the music!!

And my OEM stock rear seat speaker was in the trunk floorboard too.

Toast of course tho...

I get a tear in my eye when certain songs play on my car radio and it reminds me of "WAY BACK WHEN!!"

Just like John C. M's song "Cherry bomb!

Looking back, his song was like a part of my life..

I had enough of the drone of loud exhaust and finally broke down and bought a Pioneer and two 6x9's. Well, it looks pretty when it's all lit up while I'm driving, but I can't hear it until I stop at a light or turn the motor off......money well spent. Now I am spending more money to quiet down the exhaust...

I put a custom autosound in mine cause i wanted it to look "right" for the car. It looks decent but sounds like S$%#..course im using the stock front and rear speaker. But it does serve its purpose, i couldnt imagine cruising around in the car without tunes going.

My dad and I put a custom autosound radio in his '69 Vette and we came to the same conclusion. Looks right but sounds only OK (we replaced the speakers).

Anyone added a radio to a radio delete car? I can see head unit in the glovebox, speakers in the kick panels, but what would you do about an antennae? I like the no antennae look...plus Im not jazzed about cutting a hole in a painted car...

I installed speakers in the rear and ran speaker wire when I put the car back together, but I still haven't put the stereo/CD player in. My current sound system is a pretty loud exhaust and a healthy cam. I suspect I'll get tired of not having the radio in there but there's no rush to install it.

Using a hidden antenna should work fine. A quick Google turned up this for example:

Mine came with a modern FM and incorrect rear speakers. Believe it or not, I took all that out, had the original AM rebuilt, bought a matching speaker, and listen to AM from the single dash speaker. I wanted to go stock, so that's what I did. My wife thinks I'm a little nuts, but she does understand. Let me know if you need a speaker or your AM rebuilt and I can send you the names. I am at work and don't have it handy.

I have the original AM/FM in my car and it works fine (i.e. provides static and music). If I go on a long cruise I'll take a small boom-box with me and listen to CD's along the way. This has the added advantage of having music available at whatever the destination turns out to be. I hate the look of an after market stereo in the dash of a classic car.

I drove my old 69 El Camino that way (no radio) for over a year. You get used to it in a wierd way. Kinda calm mood while driving.... After putting one in, I always thought what took me so long. If I wanted to hear the engine, just turn it down for a few minutes. I'll be putting rear speakers in sometime soon, I just finished putting a pair in the kick panels up front.

Here's my sound system. Simple, but makes lots of power and sounds great! The bass is awesome, but I kinda hear a whining noise from the amp. I installed the same system in my last car and liked it so much that I put it in this car too.

I've drove my Camaro since 1994 with no radio. The stock AM kept blowing the fuse. This spring, I installed a Kenwood in the glove box with a Ipod hook up and two 6 x 9's...It sounds perfect...untill I start the car..than I need to turn the volume up to 75% or so to hear it...It's only on when the kids are in the car...when they are not with me..I listen to the "solid" cam.

I'm changing out these ugly speaker grills for some regular looking ones soon.

And yes, I hacked the dash. The Kenwood deck I chose has a G Force Meter, screen saver, all kinds of features I'll probably never use. :D

No hacking here, just some additions. I have a radio delete plate in the dash and put the head unit in the glove box. When sitting in the car, you see absolutely nothing. I use a remote to run the system. 2 -12" subs are ported into the read deck of the car. 6X9's in the kick panels and rear deck. Center channel speaker in original center mount. I battled with 2 batteries for a long time. One was constantly dead from lack of driving the car. I finally removed the one under the hood.
The funny thing is, I rarely ever turn the system on. I built it for stereo competitions, before they went to DB drags, which is purely for seeing how loud it can be.
The amps were painted to match the car, unfortunatley the EQ's have too many settings to paint over them, therefore, they remained white.

I don't have much of a music ear but my orig 8 track with the four speakers sounds just fine to me. Every once in a while the 302 gets a little louder than the music
