Hi All,

I've just spent tons of money having two door hinges/door and fender replaced.
The shop had a bit of trouble getting everything aligned but now it looks great.
This winter my plan is to put the car on jack stands and replace the suspension ( springs, front end parts, subframe connector etc) but along with that I want to replace the body bushings, I have bought the poly bushings and hardware.
My question and concern is:
I understand that you have to jack the body off of the frame to replace the bushings. Some posts say do one side ( all bushings out at once) and then the other. Not knowing how structurely strong the body is I'm worried I may knock the body alignment out,( push doors into fender.etc). I'm trying to figure out where the jack points are on the body, I'm not sure of my rocker panel strength if thats a point. What are opinions or recommendations on this kind of bushing replacement.

Thanks
Ray

I did one side at a time except I had all the front sheetmetal off the front so I can't help you with panel alignment issue. I used a 2X4 the length of the rocker so when I jacked the body up it dispersed the weight. Just watch your steering shaft and wires, I broke one of the groud straps that goes from the frame to firewall. I just like you was a little worried about lifting the body but it worked out fine.

Good advice, I did not think about wiring or grounds. How much did you have to lift the body to clear the bushings so you could get the new in place. I was wondering if you just have to lift an inch or less?

I actually had to lift about 2.5 inches or so

It can affect the panel alignment. Also it depends on how bad the original bushings are. Take a look and see how much gap you have between the floor pan and the frame. Also check the radiator support gap to frame.

If you don't change the core support bushings at the same time, it more than likely will mess your panel alignment up. It will also raise the height of the front end about 1/2" after you install them depending on much they are crushed.
