View Full Version : Goodmark Sheet Metal Parts
no69x-44 Sep 25th, 05, 05:48 PM I just picked up a new Goodmark radiator support (made in Taiwan - the told me they do not have US made ones) for my '69 from Ground Up at a swap meet this past weekend. My questions is -- Would this be good enough to replace the rusted and corroded one that I just pulled out of my car. Orginal rad. support are hard to come by. Oh, and by the way ... It's believed that this is a COPO Camaro that I'm in the mist of restoring.
Thanks....
69 350 SS Sep 25th, 05, 06:12 PM It would be wrong to do that to a COPO
But if its just a plain jane  no worries as long as it fits that is !!
ChevyThunder Sep 25th, 05, 06:30 PM I agree that I would try and find an original or a good used one from a donor..I would think an original COPO would warrant that...but what I would really like is to hear more about your car and see some pictures !
bilodeaulynn Sep 25th, 05, 06:37 PM What he said. Do you have the original drive line?
angelglo Sep 25th, 05, 06:40 PM im sure you can find someone who is restoring a plain jane and trade him his used original for the new one you bought from goodmark.
angel
ps, btw, how is the car coming along??

Angelo - Slowly ... very slowly. But thanks for asking. Not sure if this COPO think was blessing or a curse  As I'm sure you know, orginal parts getting nearly impossible to come by and are through the roof expensive and usually have to be rebuilt or repaired.
Here is a fairly current pic:

If I was restoring a simple Camaro ... I do believe I just might be almost done by now! :beers:
ChevyThunder Sep 26th, 05, 09:50 AM I was curious as to what clues you have that this Camaro was originally a COPO ?

dragsterman Sep 26th, 05, 03:33 PM From the info provided. I would say people would have to argue with you to say it was not real. I would document everything about the car with detailed photos and use a GM core support on this one!

Where are you located in NJ? I have a GM core support. New, never mounted and only recently taken out of the box.
KevinW Sep 26th, 05, 06:02 PM Bill, Rob lives near me in Jackson, NJ. about 45-60 minutes south from you.
no69x-44 Sep 26th, 05, 08:55 PM Bill - I would be interested in your core support. If you are familar with where Kevin lives, I'm about 5 minutes from him. If we can make a deal, I can even meet you somewhere on Rt. 31 or even in Flemington. I have bother in Pittstown, a sister in Washington Twp. and a daughter in college in Ewing, so I am pretty much up and down Route 31 on a "fairly" regular basis.
Kevin - You must be starting to feel better :D or at least a little more "frisky"... and that a good thing. I was wondering when you were going to chime in! Hope all is progressing well.
djunod Sep 26th, 05, 09:12 PM Keep in mind that Ricks sells original stamping core supports... as well as quality reproduction core supports (that have all the holes in the right place).
Before you buy one from anybody make sure you get good pictures of it, including the top bar, to see what kind of "wrinkles" there are in it. Any metal worker can take the wrinkles out though (or anybody with a little patience).

I will snap some pictures and get them to you tomorrow. :)

Bill -- sounds good. I'll keep an eye out for them. Let me know what your looking for it and if you would be interested in the new one in the box (repo) that I have. Thanks. --Rob
David -- Thanks for the advise. The one that I took out of my car was in really good shape .... well with the exception of the lower right corner under the battery tray that was non-existent!
KevinW Sep 27th, 05, 05:44 AM Rob, yep, a little TC goes a long way :) Bill and I have been swapping parts for bit and he is
Of course, please save your original car support. If it is just the part under the battery, it can repaired and saved for resale.
So have you made any driveline progress since we talked? also, what engine/trans are you putting in the chevelle project? :)

A few wrinkles are good. GM was not perfect! So many of these cars are over restored these days. It's hard to know what they looked like when they were new. I like them nice, but if your going for factory, sometimes they don't need to be as nice as you think.

Glad to hear you're coming along Kevin. Keep up the good work!
I still have my orginal rad. support. The part that is gone is the part that was under the battery tray. I mean that entire part is gone! There was nothing left were the support bushing meet the sub frame. The rubber bushing is still in the sub frame and I never had to unbolt that side to remove the support.
I'll be getting a th400 in a couple of weeks/month or so. I have a buddy of mine that put one in his '73 Vette and didn't like it, so he went out and bought a new 700r4. Once he makes the swap, I get the TH400 with about 2200 miles on it. I know it's not numbers matching ... but I can't pass up the deal and at least it is right model trany. I figure I'll go with it until the correct one presents itself. As for the motor ... I guess I need to go talk to Bruce. It just hurts me to put out 5K and then have to shell out another 2.5k+ to go have the dang thing rebuilt! I know it's a rant ... but $$$ is tight. Kid in college you know ... and 2 more coming up behind her :clonk:
The Chevelle is going to get the M20 tranny and 350 Motor that I pulled from the Camaro. We are going to do a top half rebuild on the motor (i.e. new lifters, rods, intake, maybe heads, etc.) and replace all the seals and gaskets. The motor ran fine in the Camaro and never burned any oil, so I'm figuring the bottom half should be pretty sound. The 307 in the Chevelle I'm thinking is pretty much scrape ... the Power Glide Trans was OK, so I guess I'll hang on to that.
Haven't heard back from Bill yet regarding his GM support.
WildBillyT Sep 27th, 05, 09:47 PM Rob, I'm still here :)
I had some unexpected stuff to do today so I haven't had the chance to download the pics from the camera yet. I will do so in the morning.

Hey Bill -- No rush intended ... sorry if you might have taken it as implied. I was just sort of giving Kevin and update is all. Shoot ... I know for sure spiff happens. Whenever you get to it, just let me know.
Thanks.

WildBillyT Sep 28th, 05, 08:17 AM Here you go:
They are under the "For Sale" album. The support is not faded, it is just a bit dusty from being in deep storage for a little while.
