I have an oct 68 build 1969 camaro 396....the correct carb according to books is q-jet 292200....however every one i find is dated some day in 1969...so does that mean that i need a late 1968 carb which is a different #...please find an answer this has been ongoing for somtime...

I take it the engine you have is an L35 396/325hp with auto trans, right??
Carb should be 7029200.
I should be a Rochester Quadrajet that is Julian Dated using a 4 digit code. The first 3 digits are the day of the year and the 4th digit is the Year of production. For example: 3308 would be the 330th day of 1968 or about Nov 30th.
Are you reading the date code properly? I
Some Carter Built Rochesters have a 2 digit code with a letter for the Month and a number for the Year. J8 is October 1968, that's what I have on my car.
The late 1968 carbs are just harder to find.
