Riddles!
Whats the deal with the BB 4sp x member for a 69 Camaro? My understanding is that it is different from the SB, and I see a rounded notch on one side of the upper half, supposedly there for linkage clearance. Problem is the trans mount bolt holes don't line up. Any comments or tips? Thanks.

Yes, the Camaro/Nova BB 4 speed crossmember is different than the SB ones. It's possible that you have a Pontiac crossmember. More than one person has been fooled by this since they look almost identical. Cut and paste these links. Maybe it will help.

The BB crossmember offsets the tranny a half inch toward the passenger's side (since the engine is an inch offset).

Use the correct one so everything will line up as the engineers at GM intended.

They're a bit hard to find,..try e-bay and expect to spend $3-400.

Good luck!

Hey Buenymayor, thanks for the links. Are there any pix of the top side of the x member anywhere? The one I have looks identical to the one pictured on the bottom half, but its the notch on the top half thats throwing me. The hole in the center that the mounting bolts go thru has an irregular square shape to it. Which way does it orient when mounted, or another way to tell would be based on the pair of small holes along the edge, are they towards the front or rear of the car. Any tips would be helpful to make sure I have the thing in facing the right way, because I've tried both, and neither lines up with the trans mount. Thanks very much for all the great comments so far....
