brodix looks like a better choice for your combo.

personally I would use AFR heads.
they are stronger and flow much better and have assesory bolt holes.

Don't believe all the hype you read about AFR heads. They do have some casting quality control issues I'm aware of, plus you gotta be willing to wait a good long time to recieve them.

Here's once of the best heads I've found recently.

The CFE head uses a casting done by Canfield, but it is a different casting that Canfields offerings. The CFE's are then CNC ported 100%. They use top quality components and they will tailor valve sizes and chamber volumes to your desired combination.

Other good heads are the Canfield's as well as the new Brodix Race Rites ovals and rect port versions.

The Brodix use stock valve angle and exhuast port locations. The Canfields and the CFE's have canted intake valves and exhaust ports raised .600".

For a budget setup, I'd go with the Brodix Race Rites to keep the stock exhaust location, or the Canfield 310's as another option. Bit larger budget, definately the CFE's over the AFR's hands down.

See if you can locate a set of Pro Topline 320's. They're as good out of the box as anything I've seen. I have a set that has .600 decks so I can spray it all I want. We angle milled these to 103cc's and probably have .70 - .100 of room to flat mill before we start getting close to the seat. They can generally be had for around $1200 bare and won't require much more than assembly to be all you'll need for that 496, IMHO.

CFE canfields are definitely the best standard BBC heads out there, mostly because they are ported by real proffesionals, and not just by someone who cuts some cnc marks in a runner:sad: A lot of people makin good power with the Dart pro 1s too. I dont care much for afr sbc heads, but do have to say their bbc heads are done right, but there are better choices for $3k - like the CFEs. Pro Actions are a good head to start with also.
