I'v done a search and did not find anything.

Did they put decals on valve covers in 69? Specifically would an ss 350 car have 300 hp decals on the valve covers? If yes, what did they look like?

There were two varieties of small block valve covers in 1969. Most would use standard steel covers painted chevy orange. I think that there is a chevy logo on these. The SS with a 350ci had the dress up kit (not sure it was an option or included in the 350ci.) It includes a chrome air cleaner cover and alluminum finned valve covers. (The covers were standard on Z28.) The RH cover has an insert with the chevy flag emblem where the filler cap would be on the LH one.

Check any after market parts catalog to see these.

Another thing... the 350ci / 300hp decal would be on the air cleaner cover...

In there an RPO on the "engine dress-up" option??

Is it part of the L48 engine group package?????

I'm not quite sure on this one.....

SS350 engines were built in Tonawanda. I think the #1 team tonawanda sticker was placed on the pass side cover on orange steel ones only. There was a Flint engine decal too, but I do not think it is reproduced.

There was not a dress up option for L48's in 1969. L48's were made at both plants. I have one that was made at Flint. The majority you see are Tonawanda built. All L48 350/300hp engines came with orange painted steel covers in 1969 no logo on them. The Tonawanda and Flint sticker was placed on the covers as stated by Kevin above. the 300hp stickers you see in the resto catalogs are for the mid 60's Corvettes.

My 67 SS was built in Flint (V engine stamp). Bob at camaros.com has the Flint stickers. Assume they are also correct for the chrome dress up covers in '67.

OK, so it sounds like the painted valve covers (for a 69 SS 350) would either have a Tonawanda or Flint sticker on the pass side valve cover only.

THANKS

Thinking back, I believe that one of the early Camaro Fact books, and I'm pretty sure it was in the one written by Frank Incremona, that talks about this "engine dress-up" option......

No biggie.......Just another 2-cents...

The info I have indicates that the engine dress up option is included with RPO Z27 (SS350) and Z28 so the correct vavle covers would be the GM alluminum finned ones.

That may be correct for 68 but not for 69. 68's got chrome covers. Only the z/28 in 69 came with aluminum covers. RPO z27 was also a big block and they had chrome covers, not the L48 350.

69ss350,

You are contradicting yourself. In the post below, you agree that the L48 had painted covers.

Jonesy,

What I meant was that the Incremona book had some questionable (wrong) information.....

I should have stated that in my post.....

In 69, the correct valve covers should be stamped steel, painted along with the engine.

I am guilty of having the aluminum ones on my engine....I had my original stamped units on my car three different times....the da!?!n things always leaked oil, so I just gave-up on the idea of having them on my car...

I did the same on my car and no oil leaks.

Yeah, my valve covers leak too ... The original steel stamped ORANGE painted valve covers that are on my SS 350 ... Chrome air cleaner lid, orange painted valve covers SS 350 ... But how about the 300 hp decals they are producing and selling them as valve cover decals ... Do they go on or not ? ... And where ? ...

They go in the trash l:)
They don't go on 1969 (or 67~68) SS350's :noway:

Here is a 1969 SS350 engine 23094

Here is a recently rebuilt 69 350 from an SS 23095

Here is that engine stuffed back into car for it's first cruise 23096
(notice DjD's 'rear' :D )

The 'Finned' Aluminum Valve Covers were a RPO-Z28 option application only for Camaro - never installed on any other engine option from the factory :noway:
Several "reference" books have gotten this wrong over the years - JM for one has corrected his newer issued 69-Z/SS books to reflect this information.
They were available over-the-counter, and it's is a common 'story' that dealers installed them to dress up the fairly plain engine compartment on many SS350's - I don't buy that ... There may be some examples of this happening, but the majority of SS350's left the dealer 'as-built' and the covers were likely installed later by the owner/subsequent owners to individualize their car ...
I rarely saw them on anything other than a "Z" until the mid 70's - when they were readily available over the counter and hanging on the wall of the Parts Dept. in nearly every Chevrolet Dealer I visited.
They were installed on many Corvette's, maybe guys just wanted a 'pretend Vette' engine in their vehicle
