View Full Version : What is a 70 Camaro?
Amptech Sep 28th, 05, 03:12 PM I read in the Camaro book by Ray Miller, he states that the new design body syle wasn't ready at the time the new cars came out in Sept ( of course we all know it was the strike that caused it ) and said that " Thus, Camaro the earlier body style, identifying these cars as 1970 models, until the car that would be called the 1970 1/2 model was ready" pg228. At what time during the 69-70 year were these cars produced? In the Authentic Restoration Guide Camaro by Jason Scott, I read that the Camaro had stopped production of the Camaro in Nov of 69 as of the chart on page 24. My car was manufactured on the second week of November in 69, is my car a 69? or technically a 70?
3forme Sep 28th, 05, 03:28 PM They made 69 models for 16 months(lucky for us) but your car is still a 69 model.
rafbody Sep 28th, 05, 04:55 PM Look at the vin number on your car. The last digit before the "N" is the year of the car. (124379Nxxxxxx)

I have been asking that question for 25 years !

No, the strike didn't delay the 70's introduction... Think about it, if the factory workers were on strike, how was Chevy able to keep up with the 69's production for the additional months?
As for the late production 69's, they were sold as 69's (Check the vin's) until the '70's were introduced a few months late. There is no 1/2 year as there would have had to have been a '69, a '70 and then a '70 1/2 released before the 71's came out and all there were was 69's, late 69's and late 70's...
brandnewbad Sep 28th, 05, 06:13 PM I thought the delay was because G.M. had a problem with one of the molds, Stamping of the (Quarters ?) Had not met specs, There were stress cracks. So the manufacture that had made the molds had to re-tool a new set. Which inturn led to the delay of the 1970 year model production and extended the production of the 1969 model year.

I knew this was coming (LOL) well I am going to keep thinking it was the strike , they told me it was the strike in kindergarden and I just ain't gonna have it any other way !
you all have already turned me upside down with that 1967 350 !!! (LOL)
dang it they said the small journal's were made from 1955 to 1967 and for 25 year's that's what me and the rest of the world thought and then you go and throw a bomb and say that the 67 350 was (LARGE JOURNAL) !!!!! I'll take that one as true now (EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN GO INTO ANY AUTO PARTS PLACE AND LOOK IT UP IN THE OLD BOOKS WITHOUT FINDING A LARGE JOURNAL CRANK OR SPIN ON OIL FILTER TILL 68) LOL!!!!
but I'm gonna keep my 1969 GM strike story in my head just where it's alway's been , my buddy's and I used to talk about on the way to school how the strike affected the 69 car's and made the 70 camaro's (WHATEVER THAT IS) late and stuff , if you find any document's about it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FAKE !!!
LOL ,

DjD Sep 29th, 05, 08:50 AM Just to put it out there my vin is 124379N708459 :) A 1970 would have a "0" where the "9" is. 1968 has an "8" and 1967 has "7"...
