My buddy is thinkin of buying a 69 Pace car off his brother and I'm trying to convince him to have you guys pick apart his trim tag. It has a 396 in it but a small block heater core possibly. I know it's his brothers car but you still should check the #'s right? It is completely done and he's thinkin of paying 38k. Is it worth it if it don't match? His other brother has a 68 Convert ss396 he said would sell him for 30k and it's original. Which one is better?

IMO the 69' Pace Car is a much better investment than the 68' BB, provided its the real deal and not a clone. A small block heater core would worry me too if its being made out to be an original big block, however small block Pace Cars are worth plenty too. If it is a real big block for $38K, and is all there, its probably still a decent deal.He just needs to pay accordingly, relative or not..... check what you expect, then there are never any hard feelings... :)

The matching # 68 BB rag top is more valueable than a 69 pace car with the wrong motor. Have him check in here with the details of both including cowl tag data and drive train codes. Both are too much money not to do his homework even if he is buying from a brother.

69s always bring more than 68s. 68 seem to be at the bottom of the scale next to 7s and 9s. I personally would take a 69 Pace with out the original motor over a 68 BB vert! Much more value to me!

I would take the #'s matching 68 BB conv over the non matching Pace Car especially for less money. BB vs SB Pace Cars are tough to prove without the original motor. Heater cores can be changed easily so you'd have to look for other clues. They made a lot of Pace Cars, not nearly as many BB 68 conv's.

I don't have to tell you guys what these things are worth. But the 69 Pace has went way up in value in last few years. They are pulling big money, matching #s or not. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Indy-Pace-Car-Camaro-Convertible-Z11_W0QQitemZ4579477196QQcategoryZ6161QQrdZ1QQcmdZ ViewItem . 5 days left. Yeah yeah, I know it's EBay. But these cars pull money! I like them too.
