Does this trim tag look good? I'm starting to get paranoid with all the cars I've looked at. Thanks!

WAY fake tag.

The rivets alone are bad enough, although I almost never determine a tag's legitimacy on the rivets alone.

Just the tag itself shows enough "red flags"

That thing is barely attached, probably glued in rivets, look at the shadow on the left...

"It's not my car, I just listed it for the owner, but I don't think he knew it was different. What's the difference?"

This is the response of the seller when asked about the changed tag. A lot of ignorance out there.

Thanks Kurt and all the other experts on this site who help identify the fakes and not try to make a fortune doing so.

The fakers and frauds read this site too and I'm hoping they don't collect all the fakes and all the reals and figure out what they are doing wrong. In the interest of the hobby it would probably be better to use an email address to the honest experts for the photos and only put the textual tag data on the site.

This, for me, creates the biggest dilema of all. There is no way to know if this seller is an honest guy, completely ignorant to what is going on. The last guy that gave me the "innocent" response to such an inquiry turned out to be one of the most blatant scammers we have seen. Do a search on the ebay seller name ginadylan.

Personally I would not tell him what is wrong with it. Just let him know that you know without a doubt it is a fake.

Just my opinion.

Youre right 67rs. Thats the main reason we dont dont discuss what makes a fake tag stand out [enter our standard disclaimer here], just give our 'verdicts' only. When I began studying tags, this site was a great resource for me, as I'm sure for others. But the "bad guys" have the same access, so we'll have to do the best we can on not giving away what we know.

My feeling on this is that the database continue, and that bogus cars be logged accordingly. It looks like this is working as the latest add has been pulled ( I think). My thanks go out to Car Craft Mag., issue of ( summer) 1984. They had a "truth or consequenes" issue on the Z-28 ID thing. I was contemplating buying my car until reading the article- then I made the deal armed with the "new" information, thankfully before all this crazy stuff really got going. And so it is, information is the key. Thanks to all who continue to log the Info, and help protect our hobby. I hope to have another car to add to the bogus list soon.

Cheers-

Rob
