Has any one had trouble getting headers to fit AFR Angle plug heads? I am using Headman elite headers and the # 3 spark plug goes directly into the # 1 primary tube. Most of the plugs will not come out with out removing the exaust system. I am told because AFR makes their plugs not only angle sidways but also down, Headman and Hooker tech people say I will have to have headers custom made for the car (67 Camaro) $spendy.

I have Brodix RR200's with angle plug heads in my 73 nova and the headers are listed as 1st gen camaro headers. I have no troubles with header interference except on the #3 cylinder, there had to be a very mild ding put in to get the plug out, but its a very mild ding. But I have 1 7/8" primary tubes. Im sure with 1 5/8 or even 1 3/4 this would not have needed to be done. I think you probably have straight plug headers. I thnk its time to check part #'s and see what you have.

I have 1 5/8" hooker comps, with angle plug Dart heads. These headers were NOT intended for angle plug heads (bought them long before the head swap). I had to "adjust" the #1 tube considerably, and pulling the plugs requires unbolting the headers.

I have Hooker super comp on AFR's w/angle plugs. Plenty of clearance for both plugs and wires.

I have Chevy LT1-style angle plug heads on my 327. Headers are Doug Thorley brand, and the model I have clears angle plugs and power steering.

No dinging or dimpling necessary.

I have AFR 195's Angle with Hooker 2451 1 5/8 headers for straight plug. I have no plug removal problems

Ckaram, Thinking about going to the Doug Thorley headers tri Y,,, Is that what you have? If so,,what tube size are they? Any fitment problems. Are they the 375 or 376 # headers?

Yo Z, they're 1-5/8" headers and they are the tri-Y design. No problems getting them in.

I tried to look at their website to get you the part number, but it's returning an error message right now. If memory serves me right the number is 376. I'm also running a manual trans.

If I had to do it again I would have had them coated. But they still look pretty good.

My Hooker Super Comp 1 3/4 headers clear my angle plug bowties with a lot of room and the over all fit is better than any other header I've owned. My friends Hedman elite's covered a lot of his AFR exhaust port. They oval'd them tall and thin.

They fit my car wioth no problems. I have a small block. Only thing I had to do was put a small ding by the power steering control arm.

I just went through this with my 80 Z28. My plugs would not clear on the number 3 and number 4 cylinders. El cheapo headers. I had to buy some Hooker Super comps. Not cheap. They fit mint though and there is lots of room to clear the plugs.Get the Hookers. WHen I went to order the headers they said the Hedmans would not fit even though they are spec'd for angle plug heads.

CKaram,, yes, I am familuar with that part number 376, however I havent read or heard of the performance side of these or comparisons. They do look good . Still checking. A friend lent me a pair of 2131 Hookers, 1 3/4 tubes,,, I will fit them and see how it goes. I need to get rid of this harmonic vibration that seems to come from them thru two rpm ranges. One about 2400 and again at 2800. I have checked all I can think of , even the balancer and it a billet. Still checking stuff. I add some flex joints just behind the header flange to x pipes and it seems to help isolate a lot but can still feel it.

I borrowed a set of 1 3/4 tube Hookers 2131 ,, Installed the right side and just as the owner of these headers told me,,, the right side tubes not only hit the steering idler arm but hit the stock fuel line. So I am not a stock fanatic but I can reroute and adjust. That's the right side. Will work on left side later but Doug Thorley 376 is beginning to come into the picture. I thought I would mention that my Hooker 2451 fit the AFR angle plug with no problem.. With exception to the AFR heads and AirGap intake, Car is basically stock. More to come later.
