My car has been done for about three years now. A few weeks back after washing it I noticed some bubbling in the paint right below the moulding that goes around the vinyl top on the panel between the rear window and the trunk.

I popped the moulding off and peeled the vinyl back and sure enough the top installers cut too deep with the razor blade, the paint was scratched right down to the metal. I can respray it no problem but I'm afraid it will be impossible to get it to match the rest of the car  . Here's the kicker the vinyl top guys are out of busness. Lucky me.

Thanks for letting me rant.

JP,

I feel your pain. The same exact thing happened to my 68 SS/RS when I had a new vinyl top put on 10 years ago.

Daytona, Thanks for the sympathy. How long was it before the rust appeared on your 68? BTW nice garage set up you have there. My ceilings are too low and my unreasonable wife won't let me cut a hole in the floor of the master bedroom to be able to put a lift like that in LOL. Women!

JP,

It took a couple of years before I really started noticing it, but the car is allways garage kept. All I have been doing is just tring to keep a handle on it with minor touch ups untill I can get around to restoring the car.I just never seem to have the time or the $$, plus I just enjoy driving the car to much.

Thanks on the garage. I bought the 4 post lift in Feb. and just love it. Luckily I have 10' ceilings or I would have been tring to con my wife into a little remodling :D

Ive got you all beat. Seems like the jerk who did my vinyl top one time decided to use a grinder wheel to take off the residual glue and fabric backing. Take a guess at what happened after some moisture got under it. This forced me to keep the vinyl top on when I really did not want to. I blasted all the rust off, but I allways feared it would come back to haunt me.
