Anyone buy the new repro door handles from Tamraz or somewhere else? I was wondering if the new repros are still the thin handles (older repro) or did they retool and get it right with the thicker triangle cross-section? Thanks

Kurt, good. I really want to look at one before I buy a set for the Orange car. I see Ricks (and others) have an imported set for around $40 and the Trim Parts one around $70. Which did you buy? What is your schedule like next week for me to visit? I am making progress on stripping everything off the orange car. I am going to remove the qtr windows (they need work anyway), but what about the door glass?

I bought a set from D&R, $40 sounds closer then $70. They DID NOT fit. The casting around the button, where it sticks thru the door, was MUCH larger than the hole in the door. Took a bunch of grinding on the handles to get them to fit. Also the hardware was wrong, not like the original at all. They did go on, and are ok now that they are.

I bought the "Show Quality" set from Rick's for my 68 and they fit and look great (original doors). I think they were around $70.

Kev, I bought the Imported set from Rick's for 50.00 and they fit and look great (repro door skins) If your going with you can leave it in or take it out. If you do skins though, it might be better to take it out. I am off Monday if you are going to be around. I got the frame under the car and alot of hardware installed on the firewall.

Go to gmpartsdirect.com and buy GM handles for about $30 per side. That's what I did.

I agree. I bought Trim Parts handles from Ricks years ago when they were about $55.They pitted and peeled and in less than two years looked worse than the 30+ year old originals. Then I bought two sets of GM handles, one set has been on my Chevelle for about two years now and are still perfect and the other set is for my current project.

I did not know they were still available. What is the part number?

List price is $52.08 each. GMpartsdirect is $30.74 each so even with their high shipping rates they are cheaper than list unless you have a connection at the GM dealer. ;) I dont think they come complete with the button and other little parts. I reused that stuff from my original handles.

Thanks. I just realized a buddy works at a chevy dealership in the parts dept. I am going to give him a buzz! :)

Unfortunately, the pair I bought from GM wasn't the best grade of chroming. Get gaskets and the button as those extra parts do not come with the handle.

Mine are also the Trim parts ones. IMO very nice reproductions.
