View Full Version : Convertible Rear Seat Divider in Coupe?

I have a '68 coupe that was hit in the driver's side rear at some point in the far distant past. The driver's side rear seat brace is an ugly, jury rigged piece. I'm also getting a fair amount of road noise from the rear of the car. The car is not raced, but is driven aggressively on our local mountain roads, to the point that I'd like a bit more rear tire than the 275-35-18's I'm running now.

I'm going to be tearing the car down to do a minitub on the rear (and maybe the DSE 4 link), and was thinking about trying to address my rear seat brace issue by installing a convertible rear seat brace, which looks like it would impart a fair amount of torsional ridigity to the unibody and give me a good basis for installing sound insulation between the trunk and the interior.

Any one have any thoughts on whether the convertible rear seat brace will do anything good for the unibody (increase torsional rigidity?) and whether it can be (relatively easily) installed in a coupe body?

Note: I'm placing this post in "Performance" because I'm mostly interested in how the proposed mod would affect the structural integrity of the coupe body.

Here's a link to what I'm talking about:
