Hi everyone, my question is about installing a tach dash in my 72 camaro. Will the original wiring harness work with the different dash? The dash i have is the dummy light, fuel guage dash. Someone put some aftermarket guages in it, and they did a terrible job of it. I bought a 7000 rpm dash off of ebay, and am not sure how things will turn out. I'd rather find out whats up before i install it, and have to pull it back out to change the harness.
My next question is about the speedometer gear. Someone installed a different rear end in it, and the gears are not in sync with the speedometer. It reads about 80 when i'm going about 60. Can i just change the driven gear at the trany, or must both drive and driven gears be replaced?
OK, my last question! I want to install seatbelts from a newer car. The belts i have are the non-retracting type, and i want the retracting ones. Will they just bolt in, or do i have to modifiy something? I appreciate any, and all help.

The dash harnesses between "light" and "gauges" are different. You can modify the wiring to work, possibly, would be easier to get a "gauge" harness. If youre going with aftermarket gauges, though, it wont matter as much. Only thing is, a new dash harness is pricey and can be a bear to change out.

Should be just fine by changing the speedo gear in the trans. Get one that correlates to youre rear end ratio. Tire diameter can affect it, but if its pretty close to stock, the speedo reading will be pretty close also.

You can switch over to retractable belts. Might need some slight modification, but shouldnt need too much. Just need to clear the seats. Not sure about how well a newer shoulder harness will bolt to a 2nd gen roof. I think the later 2nd gens had retractable belts, and if you can get a set of those, they should bolt right up.
