View Full Version : Location for Factory AC Evaporator BowtieFred Oct 10th, 05, 06:26 PM I am hoping to find out the correct location for factory AC evaporator on a 69 Camaro with RS options. Thanks :waving: Fred in CA Mark C Oct 10th, 05, 08:30 PM Inside the A/C suitcase on the firewall, where every other evaporator is located. Sure your looking for the evaporator, and not the dryer? BowtieFred Oct 11th, 05, 05:53 PM Thanks Mark for responding .. :clonk: maybe I am talking about the dryer, my existing dryer (?) is zip tied to the right fender well where the windshield washer container is usually located. So Mark, were and how am I suppose to mount the dryer? Thanks, Fred Mark C Oct 11th, 05, 07:11 PM The dryer is the little (quart sized) silver can between the condenser and the evaporator. It's held to the front of the passenger side wheelwell behind the battery and under the fender by two mounting straps. The mounting straps get bolted in from the wheelwell side and they are offset so the top of the dryer is angled towards the engine compartment, so that you can almost see the flow glass in the top of the dryer. If you need to buy a set of straps keep in mind the 69 straps (at least ones made after about October of 68) are different than the 67/68 straps as those dryers were installed straight up and down. BowtieFred Oct 11th, 05, 08:21 PM Mark, Thanks so much for the info -- I was never able to find a picture...you have solved the mystery. Fred CarlC Oct 11th, 05, 10:21 PM Mark, My '68 factory A/C car had the dryer mounted on an angle. If memory serves, it's an Oct. 67 build. Mark C Oct 12th, 05, 04:30 AM Are both the bolt holes on the straps same side of the dryer, or opposite sides? Mine are on opposite sides and the holes in the inner wheelwell are straight above one another. 67's originally had the bolts in the straps on the same side and the holes were right above one another in the wheelwell resulting in a straight up and down mounting arrangement. Since the setup of the dryer hoses (ie the condeser hose came up thru a hole in the bottom of the inner fender ooutboard of the battery) stayed the same until early in 69 production I assumed the mounting of the dryer remained the same as well. |
