U-bolts are stronger than T-bolts, and probably does different applications.

Right.... use the U-bolts instead.
The pads usually go above the springs (between spring and axle) and below (between shock plates and springs.

If you can cut off a small piece of pad, drop it into a coffe cup of washer solvent and observe what might happen.
If the pad expands, don't wash them.

I've got a question related to the Eaton kit as well. The thing comes with 8 pads. Four of them fit my Camaro, two have sort of a ridge (bar) across them and two have a post which is too large to fit my spring perch or shock plates. My question is, one of the pads with the large post had a metal reinforcing sleeve in the bolt relief pocket. The other did not. None of the 4 pads which fit my car had similar metal sleeves. Were they supposed to have them???
Did anyone notice if the pads you got from Eaton had these sleeves or not? Are they needed or not? The reason I ask is that I noticed the old GM pads have metal tubes molded into the pads.
Thanks much -John
