I have been looking at a 96 Z28 (t-tops, 6 speed, cloth interior). The car has just under 63k miles and seems to have been well-taken care of. The body is in good shape with only a couple of small dings. There appears to be no rust on the body or frame and no leaks. The power windows seem to be slowing down. The current owner put some money into the car somewhat recently (including an exhaust system and a new clutch)
I have done some research to find what a car in this shape should sell for. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could provide me with ballpark figures on what you feel this car should sell for.
Thanks.

2 years ago my cousin bought a 95 z the same options you are considering from $8000. Course his only had 35000 mile on it, and it had sat in a barn for 2 years (old man had a bum leg and couldn't drive it anymore).

I'd check kbb.com and edmunds.com

Location will have an effect on value. I have watched these cars locally, and a car like described could be had for $5-7k these days. IMO book value is a little behind as the used car market is pretty full due to the incentives that the new car dealers have been pushing.

The car is located in North Jersey. Yes, I have checked Edmunds and KBB. These say that the car is worth around $6000. I estimated about $2500 in extras. How much of that $2500 do you think should go towards resale?

The $2500 in extras are worth nothing to a potential buyer that doesn't want the extras. The car is worth probably $6K max. You can a 98 Z28 with the LS1 for close to that. And why did he replace the clutch with that low of mileage? Probably because he abused the heck out of it.

When I was renting cars we were in a dealership and the used car managers always looked at the NADA, not kbb or edmunds. I checked NADA with a random NJ zip code and the value is anywhere between 7-9500 depending on condition. The low mileage helps the price a lot. I know a lot of people who had to replace the power window motor on a camaro, so it might need replacing in a few years.

One thing I've been having a tough time determining is whether NADA appraises cars for sale from a dealer or a private seller. The car I am looking at is a private sale.

NADA is ALWAYS higher than real life, it sounds great if you are selling but terrible if you are buying. The window motors are cheap and take about 30 minutes to replace. The clutch should NOT have needed replacing already. My 95 Z28 has 230000 miles on the original clutch and has been abused since I bout it new.$6000 tops in my opinion.
