View Full Version : My Firebird Wont Start(non camaro)
Levi Oct 12th, 05, 03:45 PM I know that this is a camaro tech page, '69 firebirds are close to the same. Well, with that said, here's my problem. Last night, We took the firebird out on a ride. It ran fine. The next morning the car wont turn over. The starter is working, but the car won't fire. I know this is a very general and broad problem, but ANY advice would be great. I'm wanting to drive it to the year one carshow.Oh yeah, it has an Accel distributor.
Thanks Team camaro!!
JimM Oct 12th, 05, 03:53 PM oh boy... how many car's does one 15 y o need?
I used to have an accell billetproof distributor on my car... it ran like a champ for 5 years. One day, it'd crank and crank and never fire. Summit has the modules for it for $58, so I changed it, fired right up. Fine for 2 weeks... then... well anyway, after 4 of them in 600 miles, I got an MSD ready to run. Hope you don't need 4.
Levi Oct 12th, 05, 04:06 PM Thanks Jim, I'll see if I can track one down. About the cars, The chevelle is my dad's, and the firebird's also his ,but I helped restore it. I'm saving for a camaro, but He likes firebirds more. LOL thanks for the tip, too
Levi Oct 12th, 05, 08:33 PM Thanks for the help Jim!! I got the module and, 2 1/2 hours later, she fired right up!!
JimM Oct 12th, 05, 09:36 PM Way to go, Levi. How the heck did you get one that quick, you live next door to summitracing?
Levi Oct 13th, 05, 05:55 AM I called up Auto Zone and, they happened to have one for an accel distributor! I was surprised when they said it was only $16.95. So I figured I'd go and get it. I get home, take off the dist. cap, (I didn't want to unhook the spark plug wires) and installed it. The hard part was the lack of room to move. The dist. cap only would come up so far, so it took a little longer to maneuver the module into place. I got it in place, hooked up the battery, and fired it right up. I guess the reason it was so cheap was that I bought an OEM replacement for a 1974 firebird.( '69s didn't have an HEI dist :p )
It's running fine now. Thanks again for your help. I would have never guessed it was the distributor module.

dnult Oct 13th, 05, 06:06 PM Firebird owners welcome. I wouldn't even worry about the non-Camaro disclaimer. IMHO, besides some styling and the bellhousing bolts, they are one in the same. Glad you got it going.
