After looking for a cross pin for an 8.2 10 bolt posi for nearly a year with no results, I decided to try a Powertrax Lock Right locker in the 8.2 10 bolt open rear in my '67 Camaro. I kept the stock 3.08 gear in it.

All I have to say is I should have done this a year sooner! The installation took about 2 hours working with lots of cig breaks and the results are nothing short of great.

This thing is VERY positive, NOT overly noisy, not very expensive, TOO EASY to install, and a great bang for the buck. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing to get a peg leg rear of any style pushing with both legs.

Now I have 2 125 foot stripes in front of the shop instead of single 300 footers! Life is good again.

good to hear. I've been waffling over whether to dump some coin on an 8.5, or just slide one of those into the 8.2. Winter project that will include 4 wheel manual disks. Still unsure which way to go, but great to hear of your "positive" experience with the powertrax!

also glad to hear another good review of the powertrax!
now if i could just afford to put a "real" differential under the '86!

JimM, remember you can upgrade to an 8.5 later and still use the brakes.

the lockrite is actually better than a limited slip differential.

I liked it because it replaces the puny stock GM spider gears and side gears with very stout pieces.

With a decent set of street/strip axles like Moser stuff, the little rear will probably live behind some pretty decent power especially in a lighter Cmaro with a smallblock and an automatic.

I already have a complete Moser 12 bolt to go in the same '67 when I get around to doing the restoration on the car but this Lock Right unit will at least make the car fun to drive until that time comes. Plus, the little 8.2 will be more sellable with the locker in it versus having only an open carrier.

I've been driving the car every day since I installed the unit and I have yet to see a downside (so far).

Randy,
Been looking at this for my list of winter projects as well! Thanks for the review! Other than: PWT-1940-LR, and gear oil, what else is needed?

So right, Doug, and looking like a better and better idea all the time. Wonder if I could get away with another "big list" this winter without causing the "spousal unit" or the "checkbook" excessive stress? The lok-rite will help the checkbook stress anyway.

Scott,
About the only thing else you'll need is a cover gasket.

This install is so simple, it's ridiculous. It took me longer to figure out the instructions than actually do the install.

Now that I've done it once, I believe I could install one in under an hour as long as the gasket scrapes off easily.

I installed the Power Trax in the 8.5 in the 75 about a year ago. I love it. You get used to the ratcheting and the slight jerking around tight turns. That being said, it sure does make the car hook up hard.

Hey guys , educate me here , 8.2 and the 8.5,, is that referred to the same as 10 bolt and 12 bolt respectively? I have always called them 10 and 12 bold . Or we talking about a differant animal?

The 12 bolt is actually something in the neighborhood of an 8.75" ring gear.
Up until the early 70's, 10 bolt rears used 8.2" ring gears. In 74, I think? they discontnued the 12 bolt, and put in the "corporate 10 bolt" The rear was used in all GM cars, and had an 8.5" ring gear. The corporate 10 bolt is nearly as strong as a 12 bolt, without the high price tag. Corporate 10 bolts from leaf spring GM cars (Nova, Omega, Ventura) will bolt into all firstgens.
