Hey guys long time lurker first time poster. I hate to say this but my clutch is making a noise! WAIT yes I did use the search function 3 different phrases and still havent found the answer. So here goes

First 68 camaro swapped from the powerglide to the TKO Elite kit classic chevy 5 speed kit, Ive got it all in and am having a terrible time getting the clutch adjusted. Yes I have tried putting the 1 to 1 1/2" of play with the pedal released but then it wont disengage the tranny, so I take up the slack and it will disengage BUTTTT I get a noise like someone sticking a metal rod into a metal fan? (VRRRRRRRRTT) once I start to let the clutch out. Once I let the pedal all the way out it the noise does stop. I thought I had it adjusted correctly but then I put the brakes on slightly to give it some tension VRRRRRRRTTT.
This noise is only when im letting the pedal out with the tranny in gear.

No I dont have the return spring hooked up correctly yet but I dont think that would affect it when Im letting out the clutch.

When I last saw the TO bearing it was installed correctly, The clutch is new from mcleod same as bell housing and fork, mechanical chevy linkage.

Any help is apreciated guys.
Thanks

What is your installed pivot ball height? This is science for proper fork geometry. No clutch adjustment can correct this if the height is NOT set-up properly.

That im not sure of, I kinda just set it while it was in the car and then used a cut off wheel to cut it off while it was still in the car. I know it seemed kinda short. If i stick my hand in the bellhousing by the fork I can get my fingers in between the fork and the pressure plate. (if that makes since)

Give me a call and I'll see if I can help you out. I need a little more information than what you have posted.

Geometery! Use the adjustable ball and set screw,,, Lakewood requires about 4 3/4 " from the ball face and the bellhousing mating surface, may have to use a straight edge or good yardstick. work for me and i did not stay at holiday inn last night.

Thought I would mention I am using the short flat face t/o brg Timken 614018
well Bellville Centerforce II plate

That is correct, a pivot ball height of 4.750" is for a flywheel that measures .950". If the flywheel has been machined, you will also need to compensate for that loss.

Did you also calculate setting up the pivot ball height with the scattershield thickness included? If not, your pivot ball is about .125" too low.

We try NOT to use a yard stick anytime at our shop. It reminds us of the spankings we got from our Dad when we were bad!

Jody, thats correct, you have to figure in the bell housing thickness in my case it was about 1/4" extra so 5" prolly did it. You musta been a badddd boy...
I see you are into the Autogear line,,,good stuff.

Well , at least you found your mistake and not someone else that you would have to pay. Lesson learned , Now class if you read this and it happens to you , Shame on you..

Think you really punished yourself, having to remove that Tremac, that sucker is heavy enuff just to get it onto a transmission jack,, if you are lucky to have one.
