allright my 69 camaro has a th350 in it, but on the gear shifter has P R N D L

it is wierd, because the powerglide only had that pattern, and the TH350 had this pattern : P R N D 1 2

so does this mean i have a powerglide gear shifter on my th350? are they even inexchangeble??

thanks

An upgrade from a PG to a th350 is one of the most common upgrades. You might only have the PG indicator or you have a PG shifter and indicator. There is a ratchet plate on the shifter that controls the position of each stop of the handle with the button locked. If you have a P R N D L ratchet then it was for PG, if you have a P R N D 2 1, then it is for a TH350 (take the plate off and look at the vertical plate and count the cuts). Shiftworks sells a conversion kit to replace a PG ratchet plate with a TH350 one.

wait, so there is a way to "lock" the 2 on the TH350?

So if i have a 350 shifter, there should be 6 stops, and the PG there would be 5,, am i right?

thanks

EDIT**

i reread what you said, and i can tell you right now that the shifter doesnt go past the "L" part...

So that means we have a PG shifter on a th350 then?

WHy would they do something like that? We were told that the car was dragraced.. was this something they did in drag racing or something?

A while back-say-ten years ago I swapped a PG for a 350, I did buy an indicator plate for the console but I kept the original ratchet plate and just filed a notch for the other gear :clonk: , I dont suggest that you do this, but it worked awsome for me and I never had a problem with it, maybe I just got lucky or something. Now since i'm older and hopefully wiser, I do things the right way the first time. I upgraded to a th200R4 with overdrive and lockup. I bought everything required for a comeplete installation for a 68 Camaro, and when Im done it will look like it was originally manufactured with the car :beers: . All I'm saying is to just take your time and do it right in the end you will understand why..................007 :D

easiest way to describe it that the N-D spot is the lowest point on the plate. If there is 1 kickup, then its a PG, if there is 2 rises then a th350. Here is the replacement plate for a TH350 from shiftworks site. Park is to the left, 1st is to the right.

I am doing this swap this winter. I have a friend with an original TH350 shifter and I am going to copy his plate and modify my PG one to match. There is 1 rivet and 1 bolt holding the plate on.

Do you just drill out the rivet and replace with a bolt when you change out the ratchet plate? I've still yet to change mine out for the 200R4 plate............007

I was going to use a cutoff wheel on my 4"(BIG rivet), but yea, just replace rivet with a bolt.
