Well I was enjoying being unemployed, but it looks like a new job (contract) has found me! I will be going out to Richmond on Jan 5 for a few months. Anybody from there? What's the weather like? What's there to do? Any good junk yards or good places to find camaros?

I was figuring that I'd need a winter coat, which I'll have to dust off as it doesn't get much use out here in AZ!!

i went to school about an hour and a half west of richmond. weather is a little crazy there. definitely pack up some winter stuff. you could have a full snow storm and then 60s the next day. virginia is a beautiful state, definitely check out some of the scenery while you're there. blue ridge mountains, tons of cools stuff out there. enjoy the trip.

Hey Zach, did you go to UVA?

I live in Richmond! Well, I'm a law student at the University of Virginia, about 80 miles west of the city... but when I'm not in class I'm at home with the folks in Richmond.

I like Richmond, and I like Virginia.

Just north of Richmond (in Ashland Virginia) is a place called "The Camaro and Mustang Salvage." It is a small place, but every so often they have a good looking first-gen out front. Inside they have all sorts of resto parts... but again it is a small place. If you go a little farther up north, there is "Leon's." It is a pretty big junkyard that has all kinds of stuff!

There are all sorts of shows and stuff going on in the city at any given time too. Lots of stuff to see and do.

Well, the past three days in Richmond have been around 65 degrees! But that isn't normal... yes, you'll need a good winter coat.

I really need to update my profile... it still says Williamsburg.

Cool!

It is such a long commute for me from AZ that I will only come back home every other week. That will leave me with weekends in Richmond.

I'll have to check out those bone yards!!

Paul congrats on another project. Too bad about the commute though. Hey, leave your 69 with me so it won't get flat spots on the tires. My office is a couple minutes from the airport so the car will be there when you get back. LOL

I don't know about leaving the 69 with you, but if you want that engine hoist it would probably best to get it sometime before the 5th.

Although I have never lived there, myself and 3 others here from work went there about 5 years ago for 9 days for a training class. There is definately some cool scenery out there. The blue ridge mountains are beautiful...you just have to take the scenic byway or whatever they call it thru there. There are also hundreds of caverns all over the state within reasonable driving distance, the natural bridge was pretty neat, and if you get out away from the city, you will find the occasional old plantation mansions that are pretty amazing. We had an awesome time down there...we was given 2 rental cars and drove the wheels off of them.

skyline drive runs through the blueridge mountains, driven on it a few times, amazing views. the caverns are really cool too, the caverns in Luray were really close to me. john, nope not UVA, went to JMU. its right off of 81 in harrisonburg. maybe i was a little further away, or maybe i was going a little fast on the highways graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I live right outside of Richmond. If you have some way of sending me an e-mail when you get here, we may be able to meet somewhere. There will be a car show the first part of February that the family and I attend.Be happy to have you join us. The "Super Chevy" show is not until October. Would be happy to show you the 67 and get some pointers. :D

Wow, sounds like richmond could be a cool place to spend some time! I would love to go to the car show!! I should be out there all of January and February. After that I'm not sure, as I may be getting a contract over in California (bay area) in March or so.

Feel free to shoot me an email too when you get to town. I'll be spending most of my time at school, but I make it back home for a weekend every so often. Always up for getting together and talking Camaros.

Richmond is a nice place to visit. Lots of history and older architecture. Be sure to bring gloves and a parka, it does get cold and snow in Richmond. Long John's (underwear) wouldn't be bad either.

Drop me a line.

You are at UVA and your sig is Williamburg? Undergrad at W&M? Just curious. My son is 1L at W&M.

Yes, I was a WM undergrad. Just finished up this past spring and am a 1L at UVA now.

I loved it in the 'burg. A lot of my friends said it was too slow, with not enough stuff to do... but that was fine by me. I like a little slower pace life.

I made it to Richmond! It took me all day to get here, got bumped off of one oversold flight and had a two hour delay on the next one.

At least they give me free high speed access at the hotel! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Glad to see that you made it safe and sound. If I'm not mistaken, aren't the Capitol One offices near the "Short Pump" area of the metropolitan area? If so, you are approximately 30 to 45 minutes from me. I will try an arrange for us to meet once I feel I am not catching whatever the wife has right now. Don't want to pass any sickness on. :D

I'll see if I can make it back any of those weekends. Keep an eye in the paper to see if there are any events... none that I really know of, but then again I haven't been in Richmond too long myself.

Don't know when they'll start up again, but evidently there is a cruise in every Saturday (when weather is nice) in the Home Depot/Wal-Mart parking lot on Hull Street Road in Midlothian.

Wow, sorry I missed you guys. I just moved back to PA from Midlothian a few months ago. I worked in Glen Allen. Midlothian is the south side of Richmond. Paul, I think I know the building...across from Carmax? I worked at a place a block up across from Innsbrook.

I'll keep an eye on the car shows coming up. I won't be here this weekend, so that show is out of the question.

There is a show March 5-7 in Roanoke, VA - "Twenty-Fourth Annual MDA Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show, Corral, Flea Market and Model Show"

Wherever "Roanoke, VA" is...

I don't know where the Carmax is, or at least I haven't noticed it. I'm working on Broad road and the other road I remember is cox....another road here is called innsbrook.

Are you going?

Do you guys stay overnight down there?

Everett#2390
Feb 12th, 04, 12:38 AM
Myrtle Beach is about an 7-8 hour drive from Richmond. I-95 South, take a left once you cross into SC, I-40(?).

Event is over the weekend, maybe starts Wed through Sunday. Nice city, Myrtle Beach, it would be a miniature Carlisle.

DWL
Feb 12th, 04, 04:52 AM
I'm not going to the Myrtle Beach show but several of the guys are. My car is afraid of the rain. The trip takes about 6 hours and they stay in a hotel near the show Friday and Saturday night.

DanCamm

Dallas is right. Myrtle is only about a 5-6 hour drive from Richmond. I-95 to SC-38 to 501 into Myrtle. Made that trip back and forth every weekend for about 2 months.
