: Richmond VA??
Dec 24th, 03, 06:58 PM
Well I was enjoying being unemployed, but it looks like a new job (contract) has found me! I will be going out to Richmond on Jan 5 for a few months. Anybody from there? What's the weather like? What's there to do? Any good junk yards or good places to find camaros?
I was figuring that I'd need a winter coat, which I'll have to dust off as it doesn't get much use out here in AZ!!
Dec 24th, 03, 08:19 PM
i went to school about an hour and a half west of richmond. weather is a little crazy there. definitely pack up some winter stuff. you could have a full snow storm and then 60s the next day. virginia is a beautiful state, definitely check out some of the scenery while you're there. blue ridge mountains, tons of cools stuff out there. enjoy the trip.

Hey Zach, did you go to UVA?
I live in Richmond! Well, I'm a law student at the University of Virginia, about 80 miles west of the city... but when I'm not in class I'm at home with the folks in Richmond.
I like Richmond, and I like Virginia.
Just north of Richmond (in Ashland Virginia) is a place called "The Camaro and Mustang Salvage." It is a small place, but every so often they have a good looking first-gen out front. Inside they have all sorts of resto parts... but again it is a small place. If you go a little farther up north, there is "Leon's." It is a pretty big junkyard that has all kinds of stuff!
There are all sorts of shows and stuff going on in the city at any given time too. Lots of stuff to see and do.
Well, the past three days in Richmond have been around 65 degrees! But that isn't normal... yes, you'll need a good winter coat.
I really need to update my profile... it still says Williamsburg.
Dec 25th, 03, 04:47 AM
It is such a long commute for me from AZ that I will only come back home every other week. That will leave me with weekends in Richmond.
I'll have to check out those bone yards!!
Dec 25th, 03, 05:50 AM
Paul congrats on another project. Too bad about the commute though. Hey, leave your 69 with me so it won't get flat spots on the tires. My office is a couple minutes from the airport so the car will be there when you get back. LOL
Dec 25th, 03, 07:03 AM
I don't know about leaving the 69 with you, but if you want that engine hoist it would probably best to get it sometime before the 5th.
Dec 25th, 03, 08:56 AM
Although I have never lived there, myself and 3 others here from work went there about 5 years ago for 9 days for a training class. There is definately some cool scenery out there. The blue ridge mountains are beautiful...you just have to take the scenic byway or whatever they call it thru there. There are also hundreds of caverns all over the state within reasonable driving distance, the natural bridge was pretty neat, and if you get out away from the city, you will find the occasional old plantation mansions that are pretty amazing. We had an awesome time down there...we was given 2 rental cars and drove the wheels off of them.
Dec 25th, 03, 10:25 AM
skyline drive runs through the blueridge mountains, driven on it a few times, amazing views. the caverns are really cool too, the caverns in Luray were really close to me. john, nope not UVA, went to JMU. its right off of 81 in harrisonburg. maybe i was a little further away, or maybe i was going a little fast on the highways graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Dont forget "Super Chevy" has a show in Va. Anyone here make it to the last show?
Dec 25th, 03, 04:29 PM
I live right outside of Richmond. If you have some way of sending me an e-mail when you get here, we may be able to meet somewhere. There will be a car show the first part of February that the family and I attend.Be happy to have you join us. The "Super Chevy" show is not until October. Would be happy to show you the 67 and get some pointers. :D
Dec 25th, 03, 05:20 PM
Wow, sounds like richmond could be a cool place to spend some time! I would love to go to the car show!! I should be out there all of January and February. After that I'm not sure, as I may be getting a contract over in California (bay area) in March or so.
Dec 25th, 03, 06:34 PM
Feel free to shoot me an email too when you get to town. I'll be spending most of my time at school, but I make it back home for a weekend every so often. Always up for getting together and talking Camaros.
Dec 26th, 03, 03:13 AM
Richmond is a nice place to visit. Lots of history and older architecture. Be sure to bring gloves and a parka, it does get cold and snow in Richmond. Long John's (underwear) wouldn't be bad either.
Drop me a line.
Dec 26th, 03, 04:22 AM
Wow, you guys are great!! I can see that you are going to make me feel right at home (even though I'll be 2300+ miles from home)!!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Dec 26th, 03, 04:33 PM
Everett is correct.Long johns will feel good doing this period.More than likely, you will get to experience a snow fall or two during your stay or at least a taste of freezing rain and ice. :D
Dec 28th, 03, 04:41 AM
Hey Paul if you get Bored some weekend, give me a Phone call & come over to Eastern, Ky & I'll show you some nice Camaro's & some nice projects. I don't know exactly how far it is but it should be a easy drive. the zip is 41522 so you can check it out on mapblast.
Dec 28th, 03, 08:32 AM
I'd love to come out and see your camaro, but it's like 375 miles from richmond....That's a lot of driving!
Dec 29th, 03, 01:05 PM
You are at UVA and your sig is Williamburg? Undergrad at W&M? Just curious. My son is 1L at W&M.
Dec 30th, 03, 04:29 PM
Yes, I was a WM undergrad. Just finished up this past spring and am a 1L at UVA now.
I loved it in the 'burg. A lot of my friends said it was too slow, with not enough stuff to do... but that was fine by me. I like a little slower pace life.
Dec 31st, 03, 01:12 PM
Hey Paul remember when you talked me into keeping my Camaro? You should see it in person.Drive over some Friday afternoon & spend the weekend at my House, Lynne is a great southern cook & we have two extra bed rooms e-mail me & I'll send you my phone #.
Dec 31st, 03, 01:59 PM
Man, how could a guy pass up an offer like that! I'll let you know when I get to virginia. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Jan 5th, 04, 04:25 PM
I made it to Richmond! It took me all day to get here, got bumped off of one oversold flight and had a two hour delay on the next one.
At least they give me free high speed access at the hotel! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Jan 6th, 04, 03:50 AM
free high speed internet at the hotel?! That's livin' in style! Where did they put you up?
Jan 6th, 04, 09:35 AM
At the Marriot TownePlace Suites....which is across the street from the Capital One offices.
Jan 6th, 04, 09:49 AM
Paul, aren't you supposed to be working ? You are busted surfing the net first day on the new job !
Jan 6th, 04, 10:33 AM
:D .... :( .....
Jan 6th, 04, 04:08 PM
Glad to see that you made it safe and sound. If I'm not mistaken, aren't the Capitol One offices near the "Short Pump" area of the metropolitan area? If so, you are approximately 30 to 45 minutes from me. I will try an arrange for us to meet once I feel I am not catching whatever the wife has right now. Don't want to pass any sickness on. :D
Jan 7th, 04, 01:45 AM
I'm actually at a complex in Glen Allen.
Feb 9th, 04, 04:34 AM
How you enjoying Virginia? It's been a bit cold!
Feb 9th, 04, 04:55 AM
I have been so busy though!!!! :(
I really want to meet some of you guys out here! Is there an event or something coming up where we can meet or something? I will be out here until about April 9th or so (weekends of 2/21, 3/6, 3/20 & 4/3). If anyone knows of something coming up, let me know so we can get together! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Feb 9th, 04, 11:50 AM
I'll see if I can make it back any of those weekends. Keep an eye in the paper to see if there are any events... none that I really know of, but then again I haven't been in Richmond too long myself.
Don't know when they'll start up again, but evidently there is a cruise in every Saturday (when weather is nice) in the Home Depot/Wal-Mart parking lot on Hull Street Road in Midlothian.
Feb 9th, 04, 11:55 AM
OK....Where the heck is Midlothian?
Feb 9th, 04, 03:35 PM
Having a few problems with my e-mail here at home. Sent you an e-mail from a different location with a telephone number where I can be contacted.
Feb 9th, 04, 04:34 PM

Feb 9th, 04, 04:42 PM
Wow, sorry I missed you guys. I just moved back to PA from Midlothian a few months ago. I worked in Glen Allen. Midlothian is the south side of Richmond. Paul, I think I know the building...across from Carmax? I worked at a place a block up across from Innsbrook.
Feb 10th, 04, 12:45 AM
I'll keep an eye on the car shows coming up. I won't be here this weekend, so that show is out of the question.
There is a show March 5-7 in Roanoke, VA - "Twenty-Fourth Annual MDA Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show, Corral, Flea Market and Model Show"
Wherever "Roanoke, VA" is...
I don't know where the Carmax is, or at least I haven't noticed it. I'm working on Broad road and the other road I remember is cox....another road here is called innsbrook.
Feb 11th, 04, 06:45 AM
Paul, I live in Midlothian, which is west of Richmond. Here is a link to my club's web site, where you can review a list of upcoming events.
Feb 11th, 04, 07:16 AM
I'll be around for the "Myrtle Beach Run to the Sun"...What's that?
Feb 11th, 04, 07:26 AM

Feb 11th, 04, 07:46 AM
Is that a long drive?
Are you going?
Do you guys stay overnight down there?
Feb 12th, 04, 12:38 AM
Myrtle Beach is about an 7-8 hour drive from Richmond. I-95 South, take a left once you cross into SC, I-40(?).
Event is over the weekend, maybe starts Wed through Sunday. Nice city, Myrtle Beach, it would be a miniature Carlisle.
Feb 12th, 04, 04:52 AM
I'm not going to the Myrtle Beach show but several of the guys are. My car is afraid of the rain. The trip takes about 6 hours and they stay in a hotel near the show Friday and Saturday night.
Feb 12th, 04, 05:11 AM
Dallas is right. Myrtle is only about a 5-6 hour drive from Richmond. I-95 to SC-38 to 501 into Myrtle. Made that trip back and forth every weekend for about 2 months.
